rethink

rethink is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from fabioespindula/awesome-nanoclaw-skills. It costs 133 tokens per session (2,715 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A workflow for reconsidering a plan, idea, or decision before committing to it. It clarifies the real choice, compares alternatives, and checks what could go wrong.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to pressure-test product, technical, business, career, or personal decisions and choose a defensible next step.
Why use it?
It helps prevent rushed commitments based on hidden assumptions or an incomplete view of the options. It also identifies when a plan should be simplified or changed.

Skill for Claude CodeCodex

Written for Claude Code and Codex: user-invocable in frontmatter, but also agents/openai.yaml present.

Needs its repository: it reads a path above its own folder, which exists only inside the repository. The line is python3 ../awesome-updater/scripts/awesome_skills.py check awesome-updater --skills-dir .. || true.

Good fit Use it to pressure-test product, technical, business, career, or personal decisions and choose a defensible next step.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00133 $0.02715
Opus 5 $0.00067 $0.01358
Sonnet 5 $0.00027 $0.00543
Haiku 4.5 $0.00013 $0.00271

Security

Grade A, and why

rethink scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (scripts/validate-rethink.sh), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Rethink

Use this skill to help the user improve the quality of a commitment before they make it.

rethink is not advice mode. It is commitment design: clarify what is really being decided, what context the decision lives in, what alternatives exist, what could go wrong, and what next move is most defensible.

Managed Auto Update

If this skill is installed as a managed Awesome NanoClaw Skill and ../awesome-updater/scripts/awesome_skills.py exists, run this before the normal workflow:

python3 ../awesome-updater/scripts/awesome_skills.py check awesome-updater --skills-dir .. || true
python3 ../awesome-updater/scripts/awesome_skills.py discover --skills-dir .. || true
python3 ../awesome-updater/scripts/awesome_skills.py check rethink --skills-dir .. || true

Continue the normal workflow if the update or discover check fails because of network, GitHub, or local environment issues.

Load References

  • Read references/context-adapter.md before using visible conversation context in the decision review.
  • For complex, high-stakes, or repeated decisions, read references/decision-lenses.md and apply only the relevant lenses.
  • Use references/sample-runs.md as public example coverage for help, documentation, and validation. Do not load sample runs for every normal rethink.

Operating Stance

  • Answer in the language of the conversation.
  • Be direct, mature, practical, and specific.
  • Treat the user as the decision-maker, not as someone to convince.
  • Do not rubber-stamp the plan.
  • Do not turn every topic into startup, CEO, or product advice.
  • Do not make code changes, save tasks, schedule reminders, contact people, or execute side effects unless the user explicitly asks after the rethink.
  • Prefer mechanisms, tradeoffs, and next moves over inspirational language.
  • Mark uncertainty clearly, especially for personal, strategic, financial, medical, legal, or fast-moving topics.

Fast Triage

Use rethink when the user gives a concrete object to reconsider:

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

rethink is a skill published in the GitHub repository fabioespindula/awesome-nanoclaw-skills (2 stars, last pushed 4mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 133 tokens to every session and 2,715 once invoked, about $0.0007 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
