growth-mindset

growth-mindset is a skill for Claude Code from fatihguner/foreman. It costs 86 tokens per session (3,074 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A framework for responding to setbacks by treating abilities as developable rather than fixed. Carol Dweck's growth-mindset idea distinguishes between believing skill can improve through effort and strategy and believing it is largely unchangeable.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to reflect on failure, change how challenges are discussed, and design development approaches for individuals or teams facing setbacks.
Why use it?
It helps people examine reactions such as avoiding difficult work, giving up after failure, or treating mistakes as proof that improvement is impossible.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00086 $0.03074
Opus 5 $0.00043 $0.01537
Sonnet 5 $0.00017 $0.00615
Haiku 4.5 $0.00009 $0.00307

Security

Grade A, and why

growth-mindset scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Growth Mindset

In 1998, Carol Dweck and Claudia Mueller published a study that quietly detonated decades of received wisdom about praise. They told one group of children they were smart after they solved a problem. They told another group they had worked hard. The "smart" children subsequently avoided challenging tasks, collapsed under difficulty, and lied about their scores. The "hard work" children sought harder problems, persisted longer, and performed better. That single experiment -- replicated and extended over the next two decades at Stanford -- revealed something profound about the architecture of human motivation: the beliefs people hold about the nature of their own abilities fundamentally shape how they respond to setbacks, challenges, and opportunities. Dweck formalised this into two orientations -- fixed mindset and growth mindset -- and in doing so provided a framework that has reshaped education, sport, and, increasingly, how organisations think about talent, innovation, and culture.

The Framework

Fixed vs. Growth: The Two Orientations

The distinction is not about optimism versus pessimism, or effort versus laziness. It concerns a deeper belief about the malleability of human capability.

Dimension Fixed Mindset Growth Mindset
Core belief Ability is innate and static Ability is developed through effort, strategy, and learning
Response to challenge Avoids challenges that risk exposing inadequacy Embraces challenges as learning opportunities
Response to failure Interprets failure as evidence of inherent limitation Interprets failure as information about what to adjust
Response to effort Views effort as proof of insufficient talent Views effort as the path to mastery
Response to criticism Defensive; takes feedback personally Seeks feedback as developmental input
Response to others' success Threatened; perceives it as diminishing own standing Inspired; studies it for learnable lessons

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
