proofread

proofread is a skill for Claude Code from Felpix-Studios/social-science-research. It costs 41 tokens per session (581 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A proofreading skill for academic papers and manuscripts. It looks for grammar, spelling, layout, consistency, and other surface-level writing problems without changing the files.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to review one manuscript or a group of files in specified research folders. The report identifies each issue, its location, and a suggested correction.
Why use it?
It gives you a structured list of writing issues while leaving the original manuscript untouched, so you can decide which corrections to make.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00041 $0.00581
Opus 5 $0.00020 $0.00291
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00116
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00058

Security

Grade A, and why

proofread scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Proofread Academic Writing

Run the mandatory proofreading protocol on papers or manuscripts. Produces a report of all issues WITHOUT editing any source files.

Steps

  1. Identify files to review:

    • If $ARGUMENTS is a specific filename: review that file only
    • If $ARGUMENTS is all: review all files in manuscripts/ and Quarto/ (if it exists)
    • If $ARGUMENTS is a file in manuscripts/: treat as manuscript (not slides)
    • If $ARGUMENTS is empty or ambiguous and multiple files exist, use AskUserQuestion:
      • header: "Files"
      • question: "Which files should I proofread?"
      • multiSelect: true
      • options: list up to 4 found files (label: filename, description: directory and file type). User can select multiple or choose "Other" to specify a path.
  2. For each file, launch the proofreader agent (via Task). It checks grammar, typos, layout issues, consistency, and academic quality — the agent definition owns the full category specifications, so do not restate them here.

  3. Produce a detailed report for each file listing every finding with:

    • Location (line number or section heading)
    • Current text (what's wrong)
    • Proposed fix (what it should be)
    • Category and severity
  4. Save each report to quality_reports/:

    • For .tex slide files: quality_reports/FILENAME_report.md
    • For .qmd slide files: quality_reports/FILENAME_qmd_report.md
    • For manuscript files: quality_reports/FILENAME_proofread.md
  5. IMPORTANT: Do NOT edit any source files. Read ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/skills/proofread/references/proofreading-protocol.md. Only produce the report. Fixes are applied separately after user review.

  6. Present summary to the user:

    • Total issues found per file
    • Breakdown by category
    • Most critical issues highlighted

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

proofread is a skill published in the GitHub repository Felpix-Studios/social-science-research (8 stars, last pushed 2mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 41 tokens to every session and 581 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
