fix-merge-conflicts

fix-merge-conflicts is a skill for Cursor from fmflurry/settings-opencode. It costs 36 tokens per session (1,525 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A Git workflow for resolving conflicts between branches, usually by rebasing one branch onto another. It creates a backup branch, makes focused edits, and checks the build and tests before finishing.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when a branch has unresolved conflicts and needs to return to a buildable, tested state. It also helps finish the work without force-pushing or pushing without approval.
Why use it?
It reduces the risk of losing work or combining incompatible changes while resolving conflicts. It stops instead of guessing when the intended behavior or verification result is unclear.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00036 $0.01525
Opus 5.5 $0.00014 $0.00610
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00007 $0.00305
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00153

Security

Grade A, and why

fix-merge-conflicts scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Fix merge conflicts

If the current project has .claude/skills/fix-merge-conflicts/SKILL.md or .opencode/skills/fix-merge-conflicts/SKILL.md, read it and its references/; project specifics override this generic version.

Trigger

Branch has unresolved merge conflicts and needs a reliable path to a buildable state. Prefer rebase (linear history) over merge when safe.

Hard Rules

  1. Never break behavior. Minimal, correctness-first edits only. Preserve intent, both sides when safe.
  2. Back up first. Create a backup branch before starting; restore from it if you abort or hit verification failures.
  3. Abort on doubt. Any conflict about intent (not just text), verification failing twice, or data-model conflicts (EF Migrations, ORM snapshots) → git rebase --abort, restore backup, STOP.
  4. Stage explicit paths only. Never git add -A, ., or commit -a. Always git add -- <path> <path> for specific files.
  5. No hooks or config changes. Never pass --no-verify, never use git rebase -i, never edit git config or rerere settings.
  6. Push only with explicit consent. Present the push command and await human approval; never push without it.

Preflight

Before starting the rebase:

  1. Run git status --porcelain. Any output → STOP. Commit or stash uncommitted changes first.
  2. Check for in-progress merge or rebase: git rev-parse --git-path MERGE_HEAD and git rev-parse --git-path rebase-merge. If either exists, ask the human about git merge --abort or git rebase --abort to clear it.
  3. Run git fetch origin to ensure base ref is current.
  4. Determine the base: ask for the base ref (e.g., origin/main), or run gh pr view --json baseRefName to extract it from the PR.
  5. Record the current HEAD SHA and upstream SHA (@{u}): git rev-parse HEAD and git rev-parse @{u}.

Backup

  1. Generate backup branch name: backup/<branch-name-with-slashes-as-hyphens>-<YYYYMMDDHHMM> (lowercase).
  2. Validate against regex ^backup/[a-z0-9]+(-[a-z0-9]+)*$.
  3. Create backup: git branch backup/<name>. Confirm it matches the regex. When a goal is active (.claude/state/goal.json exists), record it with agent-harness goal backup-add <name>.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
