In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when starting a feature, adding a dependency, or about to create a folder or utility.
Why use it?
It reduces duplicate code, dependencies, folders, and utilities when something suitable may already exist.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00042 $0.00502
Opus 5.5 $0.00017 $0.00201
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00008 $0.00100
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00050

Measured 17d ago against content hash 8754f8cefdf1, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

search-first scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 17d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Search before you add a folder

On this machine the search order is fixed. Do the steps you can, then write.

  1. Match the name under C:/Users/frank/starlight/repos. Do not recurse from C:\, from the home directory, or from This PC. Phone Link will download files if you do.
  2. Check gh for frankxai and, when the brand is Arcanea, the dormant Arcanea-Labs org.
  3. Read the domain guide that already owns the topic.
  4. Pick one child repo. Record path, git toplevel, origin, and branch.
  5. Run python C:/Users/frank/.starlight/workspace-bootstrap/route_work.py guard from that repo. A refuse means you are still in the wrong place.

What you may install

  • pnpm when the lockfile is pnpm. uv for Python. Podman when a container is required.
  • A single named skill whose license is MIT, Apache-2.0, BSD, ISC, CC0, CC-BY, or Unlicense.

What you do not install

  • A catalog, a marketplace full profile, or a second orchestrator.
  • A new top-level folder under C:/Users/frank.
  • Anything from C:/Users/frank/universe. That tree is quarantined.

Decision

  • Depend, when their repo is the runtime and you can pin a commit.
  • Absorb, when the value is a procedure and you can re-express it through node scripts/absorb.mjs in the skills library.
  • Adapt, only for a system this machine already runs.
  • Build, when the first three searches came back empty and you wrote down what you searched.

Where this came from

The adopt-or-build choice follows affaan-m/ECC skills/search-first at 4eb71d92a39cab44ad40ac9d8a6a5ccb4029d6c2 (MIT). The path order, the Phone Link ban, and the location gate are estate rules.

Built on SIP.

Files

What ships with it

1 file beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

search-first is a skill published in the GitHub repository frankxai/claude-skills-library (47 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 42 tokens to every session and 502 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-11.
