htmx

htmx is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from G1Joshi/Agent-Skills. It costs 20 tokens per session (330 once invoked), scanned C, original, MIT.

A small JavaScript library that adds browser interactions to ordinary HTML through attributes. The server returns HTML fragments, which replace selected parts of the current page.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to make server-rendered pages interactive, trigger GET and POST requests from HTML elements, update part of the page, and show loading indicators.
Why use it?
It adds actions such as loading or submitting part of a page without requiring a single-page application framework or complex client-side state.

Getting it into your agent

One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00020 $0.00330
Opus 5 $0.00010 $0.00165
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00066
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00033

Security

Grade C, and why

htmx scanned grade C with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Hidden instructionshighPrompt injection

Directives inside HTML comments, invisible characters or bidirectional overrides are read by the model and not by the person reviewing the file.

What it actually says

htmx

High power tools for HTML. Allows you to build modern user interfaces with the simplicity of hypertext.

When to Use

  • Server-side rendered applications (Django, Flask, Rails, Go, PHP)
  • You want SPA-like interactivity without the complexity of React/Vue
  • "Hypermedia-driven" applications

Quick Start

<script src="https://unpkg.com/[email protected]"></script>

<!-- When clicked, issue GET to /clicked, swap outerHTML with response -->
<button hx-get="/clicked" hx-swap="outerHTML">Click Me</button>

Core Concepts

Attributes

hx-get, hx-post, hx-trigger, hx-target, hx-swap.

Swapping

Replacing parts of the DOM with HTML returned from the server.

HATEOAS

Hypermedia As The Engine Of Application State. The server returns HTML (state), not JSON.

Best Practices

Do:

  • Return partial HTML snippets from the server
  • Use hx-boost to speed up navigation
  • Use hx-indicator for loading states

Don't:

  • Return full HTML pages for partial updates
  • Use htmx if you need complex client-side state (offline mode, etc.)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

htmx is a skill published in the GitHub repository G1Joshi/Agent-Skills (12 stars, last pushed 7mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 20 tokens to every session and 330 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it C with 1 finding (hidden instructions). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
