agent-operator-setup

A setup guide that directs installation, updates, and troubleshooting for Agent Operator in Codex, Claude Code, or Gemini CLI. It chooses the client-specific setup path.

In plain words
What is it for?
Setting up Agent Operator, updating it, checking which client is in use, and troubleshooting installations across the three supported command-line tools.
Why use it?
It avoids applying the wrong installation format or changing configuration before the target client is known. It also helps diagnose problems without immediately modifying user settings.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00076 $0.00314
Opus 5 $0.00038 $0.00157
Sonnet 5 $0.00015 $0.00063
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00031

Measured yesterday against content hash 006260c21658, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

agent-operator-setup scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Agent Operator Setup

Use this skill as a thin, agent-neutral router. Do not pretend the three clients share one installation format.

  1. Determine whether the target is Codex, Claude Code, or Gemini CLI from the user's request and available executable.

  2. If more than one client is plausible and the requested action would mutate user configuration, ask which client is in scope.

  3. Read and follow only the matching setup skill:

    Client Owning skill
    Codex Codex setup
    Claude Code Claude setup
    Gemini CLI Gemini setup
  4. Prefer the client's native marketplace or extension commands.

  5. Use read-only diagnosis before changing user-level state.

Adding a marketplace or extension does not authorize installing every component. Preserve unrelated plugins, extensions, skills, agents, commands, hooks, MCP servers, scopes, and configuration.

Files

What ships with it

1 file beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

agent-operator-setup is a skill published in the GitHub repository gabonio/agent-operator-toolkit (1 stars, last pushed 28d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 76 tokens to every session and 314 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
