compact

compact is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from gabrielmoreira/agent-skills-mirror. It costs 38 tokens per session (243 once invoked), scanned A, a copy of compact, MIT.

A tool for checking conversation context usage and scheduling compaction. Compaction replaces older conversation history with a shorter summary so the session can continue with more room.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to check context usage and schedule a summary that preserves important plans, handles, file paths, and next steps.
Why use it?
It helps long coding sessions continue when the conversation is approaching its context limit.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00038 $0.00243
Opus 5.5 $0.00015 $0.00097
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00008 $0.00049
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00024

Security

Grade A, and why

compact scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Compact

Compaction replaces older conversation history with a dense summary, freeing context so long-running work can continue. The host owns compaction (same path as /compact); this skill is the kernel-side interface.

await compact.status()
await compact.run()
await compact.run("keep the failing test names and the migration checklist")

API

  • await compact.status() — context usage: tokens, context_window, percent, scheduled.
  • await compact.run(instructions=None) — schedule compaction for turn end.

Rules

  • Compaction never runs mid-cell; it runs when the current turn ends, and the turn then stays ended — you are not resumed automatically. Before scheduling, record the state the summary must carry (plan, handles, file paths, the concrete next step).
  • The Python kernel persists through compaction (variables remain).
  • Check await compact.status() when unsure.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
