developing-nonfiction-books

developing-nonfiction-books is a skill for Codex from GalaxyRuler/Galactic-skills. It costs 67 tokens per session (1,819 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A writing workflow for developing a serious nonfiction book or book-length manuscript, from the first idea or research through drafting, revision, fact-checking, and quality checks.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to plan arguments, research topics, draft chapters, revise structure and prose, check facts, and assess a complete nonfiction manuscript.
Why use it?
It helps keep the whole book coherent while working on individual chapters and separates supported evidence from assumptions. It also makes the manuscript’s readiness clear.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00067 $0.01819
Opus 5 $0.00034 $0.00910
Sonnet 5 $0.00013 $0.00364
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00182

Security

Grade A, and why

developing-nonfiction-books scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Non-Fiction Book Development and Writing

Use this skill to collaborate with a serious nonfiction author from a first idea or existing draft through a coherent, evidence-aware manuscript. Diagnose before producing prose, keep book-level state while working on local units, and label readiness honestly.

Read INTAKE.md for the full intake and diagnosis tables, WORKFLOWS.md for the five stage workflows, GATES-AND-OUTPUTS.md for output specs, gate criteria, ethical boundaries, and completion evidence, REFERENCE.md for the evidence base, and TEMPLATES.md for copy-ready working forms. Load only the parts needed for the current stage.

1. Purpose and scope

Serve authors, editors, and research collaborators working on:

  • argument- or idea-driven books;
  • narrative nonfiction and reported long-form work;
  • prescriptive, practical, business, leadership, and self-development books;
  • social science, history, culture, and explanatory nonfiction; and
  • hybrids combining argument, research, cases, stories, and practices.

Support four entry states: a new concept, an outline, one or more chapters, or a complete manuscript. Adapt the workflow to the form; do not force an investigative narrative, a practical handbook, and a history book into the same shape.

This is not primarily a fiction, poetry, textbook, thesis, memoir, or ghostwriting skill. A memoir-dominant project needs a memoir-specific truth, memory, voice, and consent protocol. A textbook needs curriculum and pedagogy design. Ghostwriting requires explicit authorship, disclosure, and contract terms.

Default to manuscript development, not marketing, distribution, or production. Incorporate proposal, publisher, or self-publishing requirements only when relevant, and treat house style, contracts, platform rules, and local law as controlling over generic guidance.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
