running-paid-api-jobs

running-paid-api-jobs is a skill for Codex from GalaxyRuler/Galactic-skills. It costs 47 tokens per session (821 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A procedure for running paid APIs, models, benchmarks, evaluations, or scripts within a user-approved cost and attempt limit.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps prepare, run, verify, and report one-off paid jobs with a strict spending cap.
Why use it?
It prevents accidental extra charges or unauthorized retries by preserving the exact budget, command, and run count, while recording results without exposing credentials.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00047 $0.00821
Opus 5.5 $0.00019 $0.00328
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00009 $0.00164
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00082

Security

Grade A, and why

running-paid-api-jobs scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Running Paid API Jobs

Overview

Paid runs are budget-bound operations, not normal retries. Preserve the user's authorization exactly, prove the run context, capture artifacts, and report spend without exposing secrets.

When to Use

Use this for paid model/API commands, evals, benchmarks, pilots, or scripts where the user gives a cost cap, budget, max-cost flag, or "single approved run" language.

Do not use this for free local tests, CI, dry runs, or mock/offline evals unless they gate a later paid run.

Workflow

  1. Lock the authorization
  • Identify the exact command, cost cap, run count, cwd, branch, and expected artifact paths.
  • If the user supplied an exact command, run that command or the closest shell-equivalent; do not silently change paid parameters.
  • Never raise the cap, increase N, broaden conditions, or run another paid attempt without fresh authorization.
  1. Preflight without spend
  • Verify cwd, branch, SHA, dirty state, and required local dependencies.
  • Check that required credentials exist without printing their values.
  • Prepare unique output/log paths. Preserve failed-attempt logs instead of overwriting them.
  • For runs expected to take more than ~1 hour: require checkpoint/resume support before starting. Confirm the harness writes progress checkpoints and document the exact --resume (or equivalent) invocation in advance — local desktops lose power and restart mid-run. If checkpointing is unavailable, stop and get explicit user acknowledgment of the all-or-nothing risk before spending.
  • Propose chunked execution (resumable segments) to the user as part of the authorization for long jobs; never silently restructure an exactly-specified command into segments. Suggest offloading multi-hour runs to a remote or always-on node instead of the interactive desktop when one is available.
  1. Run once under capture
  • Start a timer and capture stdout, stderr, exit code, and output directory.
  • If the run fails before provider/API construction and no spend occurred, report that clearly before deciding whether any local equivalent is allowed.
  • If the paid call starts, treat the run as spent even if it fails later.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
