android-core

android-core is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from GDvega/super-android-kotlin-firebase-skill. It costs 31 tokens per session (707 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide to the basic setup and behavior of an Android project, including its manifest, app permissions, resources, supported Android versions, lifecycle, and device debugging.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when creating or checking an Android project, changing permissions or resources, adjusting supported API versions, handling edge-to-edge screens, or debugging Android Studio, emulator, adb, and Logcat issues.
Why use it?
It helps resolve project and device problems without breaking support for older Android versions or ignoring how apps pause, restart, and lose process state.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00031 $0.00707
Opus 5 $0.00015 $0.00353
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00141
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00071

Security

Grade A, and why

android-core scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Purpose

Guide base Android decisions before touching Compose, Firebase, architecture or release work.

When to use

  • Creating or auditing an Android project baseline.
  • Changing AndroidManifest.xml, permissions, resources, minSdk/targetSdk or edge-to-edge behavior.
  • Debugging Android Studio, emulator, adb, Logcat or lifecycle issues.

Inputs to inspect

  • settings.gradle(.kts), root build files and app/build.gradle(.kts).
  • AndroidManifest.xml, permissions, resources and themes.
  • minSdk, targetSdk, compileSdk and device/API constraints.
  • Crash, Logcat, adb or Android Studio messages.

Required workflow

  1. Map the project structure and modules before editing.
  2. Inspect Manifest, permissions, themes and lifecycle entry points.
  3. Choose the smallest compatible Android API or Jetpack API change.
  4. Apply the change and keep behavior explicit for older SDKs.
  5. Run build/lint or the narrowest available validation command.

Rules

  • Explain every sensitive permission.
  • Respect lifecycle and process death.
  • Do not block the main thread.
  • Do not add platform APIs that conflict with minSdk without guards.
  • Prefer official Android skills for AGP, R8, Play, edge-to-edge, Navigation and security tasks.

Local skills to invoke

  • gradle-build
  • debugging
  • edge-to-edge-adaptive-ui
  • security-privacy

External companion skills to use when installed

Do not assume these companion skills are installed. Prefer the local skills above first, then consult Companion Skills for install and verification commands.

  • android/skills — use for official Android workflow alignment around edge-to-edge, adaptive UI, Navigation 3, R8, AGP or testing setup.

Files commonly touched

  • settings.gradle.kts
  • build.gradle.kts
  • app/build.gradle.kts
  • src/main/AndroidManifest.xml
  • src/main/res/values/*.xml
  • MainActivity.kt

Commands to validate

./gradlew assembleDebug
./gradlew lint
adb logcat
adb shell dumpsys package <package>

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
