gantry: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/mock-mode/SKILL.md

mock-mode is a skill for Claude Code from geleynse/gantry. It costs 60 tokens per session (2,420 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of instructions for running Gantry with a fake game connection instead of the live game service. It supplies canned responses and keeps lightweight agent state in memory.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for local development and testing when the real game connection should not be contacted.
Why use it?
It lets developers test interfaces, proxy changes, demonstrations, and tests without a game account, network calls, or production fleet.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00060 $0.02420
Opus 5 $0.00030 $0.01210
Sonnet 5 $0.00012 $0.00484
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00242

Security

Grade A, and why

mock-mode scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Mock Mode — Gantry Server

Mock mode swaps the real GameClient for MockGameClient (server/src/proxy/mock-game-client.ts), which returns canned JSON and simulates lightweight per-agent state (credits, fuel, cargo) in memory. No game account, no network call to game.spacemolt.com, no fleet-credentials.json required. Full config reference: docs/mock-mode.md. This skill covers enabling it correctly, what's real vs faked, and how it's used in tests — so you never need to point a dev instance at a real fleet just to check a change.

Enabling it

Two independent mechanisms, with a precedence rule (server/src/config/fleet.ts::loadConfig()):

# Env var — zero gantry.json changes, best for CI / quick local checks
GANTRY_MOCK=1 bun dist/index.js
// gantry.json — fine-grained control, wins over the env var
{ "mockMode": true }
// or the object form:
{ "mockMode": { "enabled": true, "responsesFile": "./my-responses.json", "tickIntervalMs": 0, "initialState": { "credits": 10000, "fuel": 100 } } }

Precedence, verified in fleet.ts: if mockMode is present anywhere in gantry.json (including explicitly { enabled: false }), that value wins outright — the env var is never consulted. GANTRY_MOCK=1 only takes effect when the mockMode key is absent from the config file entirely. This means setting mockMode: { enabled: false } in gantry.json will keep a dev server pointed at the real game server even with GANTRY_MOCK=1 set — a common trap if you copy a teammate's config that has mock mode explicitly disabled.

env.ts: export const GANTRY_MOCK = process.env.GANTRY_MOCK === "1" — only the literal string "1" activates it; "true" does not.

What else mock mode skips at startup (server/src/index.ts)

Two startup side-effects are gated on !config.mockMode?.enabled and silently skipped in mock mode, on top of the game client swap itself:

  • Credential validation (validateAllCredentials) — normally does an advisory login against the real game API on startup even when validateCredentialsOnStartup isn't explicitly false; skipped entirely in mock mode.
  • Catalog fetch (fetchAndCacheCatalog) — normally fetches items/recipes/ships from the real game API (24h file cache); skipped in mock mode.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

mock-mode is a skill published in the GitHub repository geleynse/gantry (3 stars, last pushed 3d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 60 tokens to every session and 2,420 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
