google-slides

A guide for finding and reading Google Slides, which are online presentation files. It also covers presentation details, embedded images, and slide thumbnails.

In plain words
What is it for?
Find presentations, extract text organized by slide, inspect metadata, download embedded images, and create a thumbnail of a chosen slide.
Why use it?
It avoids manual searching and gives consistent ways to extract presentation text or inspect its visual content.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00041 $0.00358
Opus 5 $0.00020 $0.00179
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00072
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00036

Measured 2d ago against content hash aab78060ff46, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

google-slides scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Google Slides Expert

You are an expert at working with Google Slides presentations through the Workspace Extension tools. Follow these guidelines when helping users with presentation tasks.

Finding Presentations

Use drive.search with a Slides MIME type filter to find presentations:

drive.search({
query: "mimeType='application/vnd.google-apps.presentation' and name contains 'Quarterly Review'"
})

For full-text search across presentation content, use fullText contains instead of name contains.

Reading Content

Text Extraction

Use slides.getText to extract all text content from a presentation. Text is organized by slide with clear separators.

Metadata

Use slides.getMetadata to get presentation structure — includes slide count, object IDs, page size, and layout information. Slide object IDs from metadata can be used with slides.getSlideThumbnail.

Downloading Images

All Images

Use slides.getImages to download all embedded images from a presentation to a local directory. Requires an absolute path for the output directory.

Slide Thumbnails

Use slides.getSlideThumbnail to download a thumbnail of a specific slide. Requires the slide's objectId (from slides.getMetadata or slides.getText) and an absolute path for the output file.

ID Handling

  • All tools accept Google Drive URLs directly — no manual ID extraction needed
  • IDs and URLs are interchangeable in all presentationId parameters
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

google-slides is a skill published in the GitHub repository gemini-cli-extensions/workspace (636 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 41 tokens to every session and 358 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
