functional-tests

functional-tests is a skill for Claude Code from gerard-labs/superpowers-api-platform. It costs 171 tokens per session (636 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A Symfony testing workflow for non-API web pages and forms. It uses simulated browser requests to check pages, redirects, authentication, validation errors, CSRF protection, and access permissions.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to test server-rendered pages, form submissions, login flows, admin areas, and anonymous or authenticated access.
Why use it?
It catches broken user-facing flows and turns reported bugs into tests that prevent them from returning.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00171 $0.00636
Opus 5.5 $0.00068 $0.00254
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00034 $0.00127
Haiku 4.5 $0.00017 $0.00064

Security

Grade A, and why

functional-tests scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Functional tests (Symfony — non-API)

Use when

  • Writing functional tests for server-rendered controllers (Twig pages, form submissions, admin areas).
  • Converting a bug report into a failing test (RED-GREEN-REFACTOR).
  • Exercising authentication flows (login form, redirects, access-denied).
  • Asserting form validation errors, CSRF, redirects, flash messages.

For REST / JSON-LD endpoints exposed by API Platform, use gerard:api-platform-tests instead — it covers ApiTestCase, schema assertions, JSON-LD pagination shape, JWT clients, etc.

Default workflow

  1. RED: write a failing functional test that captures the target behavior.
  2. GREEN: implement the smallest controller / form change that makes the test green.
  3. REFACTOR: clean up controller and template while the test stays green.
  4. Broaden coverage to authorization (anonymous / forbidden / authorized) and error paths.

Guardrails

  • Assert observable behavior, not internal state. Status codes, redirects, rendered content, flash messages — not service internals.
  • Deterministic fixtures. Foundry factories or ResetDatabase / DAMA transaction rollback per test.
  • No order coupling. Each test starts from a clean state.
  • CSRF on by default. If a form omits CSRF in the test, the test should fail.
  • Real templates render — don't mock the renderer in functional tests; the goal is the full HTTP stack.

Progressive disclosure

  • SKILL.md covers posture and rules.
  • reference.md carries the full patterns: WebTestCase skeleton, login helpers, form submission, redirect assertions, flash messages, CSRF, DAMA setup, scenario-based naming, ParaTest invocation.

Output contract

  • A tests/Functional/<Area>/<Feature>Test.php extending WebTestCase.
  • Tests covering happy path + anonymous + forbidden + invalid form paths.
  • DAMA / ResetDatabase guarantees test isolation.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

functional-tests is a skill published in the GitHub repository gerard-labs/superpowers-api-platform (2 stars, last pushed 5mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 171 tokens to every session and 636 once invoked, about $0.0007 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
