OpenScreen is a desktop screen-recording application that turns captured windows or screens, along with audio and optional webcam footage, into product demos and walkthroughs. It is for people creating demonstrations for social networks, video platforms, documentation, or landing pages.
Getting it into your agent
One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5.1 | $0.00130 | $0.03927 |
| Opus 5.5 | $0.00052 | $0.01571 |
| Sonnet 5.5 | $0.00026 | $0.00785 |
| Haiku 4.5 | $0.00013 | $0.00393 |
Grade A, and why
openscreen-demo scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 150 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
Make a demo video with OpenScreen
You produce a short MP4 that shows one feature, zooms on the action and carries its message in on-screen callouts. You do the whole job through OpenScreen's MCP tools: record, edit, export, look. It ends one of two ways:
- A pull request video: 10 to 30 s, showing the change a pull request makes, attached to that pull request so reviewers watch it in place (step 8).
- A launch demo: 20 to 60 s, 1080p, with a post drafted for X (step 9). Nothing is ever posted without the user's explicit yes.
1. Set up OpenScreen
You need the tools startRecording, stopRecording, exportVideo and getFrames. Both of OpenScreen's MCP servers have them: the one the app serves (AI settings → MCP server), and openscreen mcp, set up below. If you have them, go to step 2. Otherwise set OpenScreen up, once per machine, doing only what is missing.
The app. Its executable is the MCP server:
| OS | Executable |
|---|---|
| Windows | %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Openscreen\Openscreen.exe, or C:\Program Files\Openscreen\Openscreen.exe |
| macOS | /Applications/Openscreen.app/Contents/MacOS/Openscreen |
| Linux | openscreen on the PATH, or the AppImage |
Run "<executable>" help: it must list mcp. If the app is missing, or too old to list it, offer to install the latest release, and do it only once the user agrees:
- Find the installer for this machine in the latest release of
getopenscreen/openscreen:gh release view --repo getopenscreen/openscreen --json assets, or https://github.com/getopenscreen/openscreen/releases/latest.- macOS:
Openscreen-macOS-Apple-Silicon-<version>.dmg, or-Intel-(checkuname -m). Mount it, copyOpenscreen.appto/Applications, unmount it. - Windows: the
Openscreen.Setup.<version>.exeinstaller, run with/S /currentuserfor a silent install for the current user. - Linux: the
.deb,.rpmor.pacmanfor the distribution, or the.AppImagemade executable.
- macOS:
- Check
helpagain. If even the latest release does not listmcp, this OpenScreen feature is not released yet: say so and stop.
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

openscreen-demo is a skill published in the GitHub repository getopenscreen/openscreen (4,371 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 130 tokens to every session and 3,927 once invoked, about $0.0005 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-12.
Other skills, from other repositories
weftcut
Drive the WeftCut video editor over its MCP tools. Use BEFORE calling any weftcut MCP tool — when the user wants to edit video in WeftCut (cut, trim, arrange a timeline, add captions or voiceover) or author/update a Motif (animated overlay).
electron-expert
Expert in Electron framework, desktop app development, IPC, and cross-platform packaging. Use when the user mentions desktop, Node.js, cross platform, Windows, macOS, or Linux, or when the task involves Electron Architecture, Process Types, IPC Communication, or App Lifecycle.
electron-builder-config
Generate and validate electron-builder configuration for multi-platform desktop builds with code signing, auto-update, and platform-specific packaging.
portpilot
Start, stop and check local dev servers through PortPilot instead of bare shell commands. Use whenever you are about to run a dev server (npm run dev, next dev, vite, uvicorn, flask run, python -m http.server), free a port, or find out what is listening on a port.
losslesscut
Trim and join media with LosslessCut, inspect keyframe boundaries, and choose between stream copying and smart-cut rendering.
ffmpeg
Transcode and compress video with FFmpeg, inspect streams with ffprobe, build filtergraphs and HLS outputs, and diagnose codec or hardware-encoder failures.
