decision

decision is a skill for Claude Code from godshiba/genesis. It costs 67 tokens per session (354 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A documentation tool for recording important technical choices in a project's DECISIONS.md file. It records what was chosen, which alternatives were rejected, and why.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when choosing between libraries, coding patterns, data formats, or development processes, especially in a GENESIS project.
Why use it?
It preserves the reasoning behind non-obvious choices so future developers do not have to rediscover it.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00067 $0.00354
Opus 5 $0.00034 $0.00177
Sonnet 5 $0.00013 $0.00071
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00035

Measured 5d ago against content hash 462cad2a1b39, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-06, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

decision scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

/genesis:decision — Record a Decision

Append one entry to docs/registry/DECISIONS.md. The file is append-only: never edit or delete existing entries. A reversed decision gets a new entry that supersedes and links back to the old one.

Steps

  1. Identify the decision from the argument or the immediate conversation context.
  2. Write the entry in the file's format:
    • ## YYYY-MM-DD — <decision title> (today's real date)
    • Decision: what was chosen.
    • Context: the constraint or problem that forced a choice.
    • Alternatives rejected: each one with the specific reason it lost. This field is the whole point — a decision without rejected alternatives is just a fact. If the conversation does not contain the alternatives, ask for them or reconstruct them honestly and say so.
    • Consequences: what this commits the project to.
  3. Append and confirm in one line.

If the file does not exist, create it from the plugin's templates/registry/DECISIONS.md (at ../../templates/registry/ from this skill's base directory) and register it in FILES.md (G1).

Quality bar: the entry must answer a future "why didn't they just do X?" without the author present.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

decision is a skill published in the GitHub repository godshiba/genesis (2 stars, last pushed 2mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 67 tokens to every session and 354 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
