sync-client-libs

sync-client-libs is a skill for Claude Code from googleads/google-ads-api-developer-assistant. It costs 32 tokens per session (544 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A tool that checks Google Ads client-library codebases against the latest releases published on GitHub. Client libraries are packaged code that helps an application communicate with the Google Ads API.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to scan libraries in a client_libs directory, perform a no-change check, update outdated codebases, force a resynchronization, or output JSON results.
Why use it?
It shows which local libraries are outdated and can update them, reducing manual version checks and synchronization work.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00032 $0.00544
Opus 5.5 $0.00013 $0.00218
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00006 $0.00109
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00054

Security

Grade A, and why

sync-client-libs scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (scripts/sync_client_libs.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Sync Client Libraries Skill

Use this skill to automatically discover, verify, and update all Google Ads client libraries located in client_libs/ against their latest upstream releases on GitHub.

Overview

The client library sync tool inspects each codebase under client_libs/ (e.g., google-ads-python, google-ads-php, google-ads-ruby, google-ads-java, google-ads-dotnet), determines the locally installed release version, fetches the latest release tag from GitHub, and automatically synchronizes the codebase if the local installation is outdated.

CLI Usage

Check / Dry-Run (No modifications)

python3 skills/sync-client-libs/scripts/sync_client_libs.py --check_only

Automated Update

python3 skills/sync-client-libs/scripts/sync_client_libs.py

Output Structured JSON

python3 skills/sync-client-libs/scripts/sync_client_libs.py --json

Options Reference

Flag Short Description
--check_only --dry_run Check versions and report status without modifying any files.
--force Force re-syncing/updating codebases even if versions match.
--client_libs_dir -d Explicit path to client_libs directory (auto-detected if omitted).
--library -l Filter to target a specific library (e.g. google-ads-python).
--json Output results in JSON format for automated ingestion.

Supported Ecosystems

  • Python (google-ads-python): Reads pyproject.toml / ChangeLog, updates config/api_version.txt on sync.
  • PHP (google-ads-php): Reads composer.json metadata.
  • Ruby (google-ads-ruby): Reads *.gemspec / version.rb.
  • Java (google-ads-java): Reads pom.xml.
  • .NET (google-ads-dotnet): Reads *.csproj.
  • Git Repositories: Supports git fetch and checkout of latest release tags with automatic fallback to GitHub archive tarball extraction.
Files

What ships with it

1 file beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
