auto_task.create_plan_for_feature

auto_task.create_plan_for_feature is a skill for Claude Code from gpsaggese/helpers. It costs 16 tokens per session (1,502 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A planning workflow that breaks a complex feature into a sequence of small, reviewable pull requests, writing a detailed specification for each substantial change. A pull request is a proposed code change for review before it is merged.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to plan multi-step feature work and produce implementation specifications without writing the code itself.
Why use it?
It turns a large request into ordered pieces with clear scope and design decisions, rather than leaving one oversized change to review.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00016 $0.01502
Opus 5.5 $0.00006 $0.00601
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00003 $0.00300
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00150

Security

Grade A, and why

auto_task.create_plan_for_feature scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 136 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Goal

  • Given a request to implement a complex feature, break it into an ordered sequence of small, reviewable PRs
  • Write a full spec for each PR complex enough to need one
  • Do not implement any code

Input

  • The feature/component description, and optionally an existing plan file to extend

When to Use This Skill

  • Use it when one request needs several independently reviewable changes, and at least one has a design decision worth writing down
  • If the request fits in one PR, skip to "Write a Spec for a PR" with that PR as the whole request

Workflow

Understand the Request

  • Read the related code and the existing code in the target directory
  • If the user references a roadmap file (e.g., plan.<TOPIC>.md or docs/04-plan.md per .claude/skills/project.rules.md), read it for the exact PR scope
    • Use the plan ids (e.g., PR_M10) for the PR<NUM> bullets and spec files, per .claude/skills/project.rules.md section "Name the PRs"
  • Read the architecture doc of the target directory, if one exists
  • If the problem or solution is unclear, follow .claude/skills/auto_task.rules.md section "Ask for Clarification Before Executing an Unclear Plan" before decomposing

Decompose into PRs

  • Break the feature into an ordered sequence of small, cohesive PRs, each reviewable and testable alone
  • Prefer PRs that change whole files over splitting one file's logic across PRs
  • State each PR's dependencies explicitly
  • Merge low-risk, low-complexity PRs instead of over-fragmenting

Decide Which PRs Need a Full Spec

  • A PR needs a full spec if it adds a new interface (class, function, CLI flag), makes a non-obvious design decision, or carries meaningful risk (shared/core code, hard to reverse, many call sites)
  • Small, mechanical, low-risk PRs (rename, config tweak, adding a test) need no spec: the plan bullet is enough
  • For each PR that needs a spec, write it with "Write a Spec for a PR" below, using <TOPIC>_PR<NUM> as the topic and the plan file below
    • This produces spec.<TOPIC>_PR<NUM>.md

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
