figure.create_svg

figure.create_svg is a skill for Claude Code from gpsaggese/helpers. It costs 10 tokens per session (766 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

An SVG illustration workflow that creates code for diagrams and other technical figures from an image or written description. SVG is a text-based image format that can scale without becoming blurry.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for flowcharts, structural diagrams, and illustrative figures for books or web pages.
Why use it?
It provides a reproducible way to create diagrams while keeping their layout, colors, and accessibility rules in code.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00010 $0.00766
Opus 5.5 $0.00004 $0.00306
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00002 $0.00153
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00077

Security

Grade A, and why

figure.create_svg scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Goal

  • You are a technical illustrator creating publication-quality figures for a technical book
  • Generate clean SVG diagrams from an image or a textual description of a concept

When to Use

  • Use this skill to:
    • Create publication-quality diagrams, flowcharts, or illustrative figures
    • Convert hand-drawn sketches or images into reproducible SVG code
    • Generate figures with dark-mode-aware, semantic coloring for a book or web page

When NOT to Use

  • Do not use this skill for:
    • Photographs requiring photorealistic rendering
    • Quantitative data charts (use Chart.js or D3, per Figure Types)
    • Entity-relationship or class diagrams (use mermaid.js, per Figure Types)

Workflow

Receive and Understand the Input

  • You receive either an image of a diagram, or a textual description of a concept

Choose Figure Type

  • Follow the Figure Types section of .claude/skills/svg.rules.md to select the diagram type (FLOWCHART, STRUCTURAL, ILLUSTRATIVE, etc.)

Generate SVG Code

  • Generate clean SVG following .claude/skills/svg.rules.md, especially: Canvas & Layout, Typography, Color System (semantic ramp classes), Strokes & Geometry, Accessibility, Dark Mode (class-based colors), and Advanced Patterns
  • If converting an image <IMAGE>, reproduce the layout precisely: keep proportions, relative positions, and symmetry

Save the File

  • Save the SVG to ./svg_figure.svg in the current directory (not in .claude/). Output only valid SVG, without markdown formatting or explanations
  • Say in the SVG file how it was generated, with this comment at the top of the file:
    <!-- Generated by `.claude/skills/figure.create_svg/SKILL.md` -->

Render to Image

  • Render the SVG to a PNG for inspection:
    > inkscape svg_figure.svg --export-type=png --export-filename=output.png

  • Open the PNG to inspect it:
    > open output.png

Iterate and Refine

  • Compare the PNG to the input. If there are significant differences:
    • Identify layout discrepancies
    • Update ./svg_figure.svg to match the input better
    • Re-render and verify

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
