graphviz.convert_image

graphviz.convert_image is a skill for Claude Code from gpsaggese/helpers. It costs 15 tokens per session (308 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A workflow for recreating a graph image as a Graphviz DOT file, a text format that describes graph nodes and connections. It renders the file to an image and compares the result with the original.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to recreate node positions, colours, and relationships from an input graph image and produce a rendered PNG for checking.
Why use it?
It provides a repeatable way to turn a visual graph into editable text and refine the layout until the rendered image matches.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00015 $0.00308
Opus 5.5 $0.00006 $0.00123
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00003 $0.00062
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00031

Security

Grade A, and why

graphviz.convert_image scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Goal

  • Given an input image of a graph, convert it into a Graphviz DOT file that matches it exactly

Workflow

Create the Graphviz File

  • Create a DOT file that matches the figure exactly
  • Save the result in graph.dot
  • Say in the DOT file how it was generated, with this comment at the top:
    // Generated by `.claude/skills/graphviz.convert_image/SKILL.md`

Render to Image

  • Generate an image from the graph description:
    > dot -Tpng graph.dot -o graph.png
    > open graph.png

Compare and Refine

  • If graph.png differs from the input image:
    • Find the differences in layout, e.g.,
      • Node positions
      • Node colors
    • Apply changes to graph.dot to approximate the input image, e.g.,
      • Use rank to keep the nodes in the same relative position
      • Change node colors to match the input image

Verification

  • Confirm graph.dot renders without errors
  • Confirm graph.png matches the input image in node positions and colors
  • The DOT file says that it was generated by .claude/skills/graphviz.convert_image/SKILL.md
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
