Getting it into your agent
One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5.1 | $0.00012 | $0.02171 |
| Opus 5.5 | $0.00005 | $0.00868 |
| Sonnet 5.5 | $0.00002 | $0.00434 |
| Haiku 4.5 | $0.00001 | $0.00217 |
Grade A, and why
markdown.summarize scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 208 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
Interface Specification
Inputs
| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
<INPUT> |
file path or text | Yes | Markdown file or text chunk to summarize |
<NUM_WORDS> |
integer | No* | Target output word count |
<FRACTION> |
float (0-1) | No* | Alternative to <NUM_WORDS>: fraction of original size |
<MAX_HEADER_LEV> |
integer | No | Max header level to preserve (default: preserve all levels) |
<TAG> |
string | No | Tag for output filename (default: derived from input) |
- Exactly one of
<NUM_WORDS>or<FRACTION>must be specified.
Outputs
| Item | Format | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Console output | Text | Header structure preview + summary + statistics |
| Output file | Markdown | explanation.<tag>.md (overwrites if exists) |
| Word count | Integer | Original and target word counts printed to console |
- Say in the output file how it was generated, with this comment at the top:
<!-- Generated by `.claude/skills/markdown.summarize/SKILL.md` -->
Workflow
Parse Input
- Read the file at
<INPUT> - Extract headers using markdown syntax (
#,##,###, etc.)
Determine Header Strategy
Case A: Input has header structure
- Extract all headers and print the structure to console
Case B: Input is plain text (no headers)
- Skip header extraction. Summarize directly
Apply Header Level Filter
If <MAX_HEADER_LEV> not specified:
- Preserve all header levels from the original
If <MAX_HEADER_LEV> specified:
- Keep only headers with level <=
<MAX_HEADER_LEV> - Summarize each deeper section into chunks (see "Group Into Chunks")
- Each collapsed section becomes a chunk titled after its header text (shortened if needed)
- Headers nested inside a collapsed section become sub-bullets
For every header kept (header fidelity):
- Copy the header line verbatim: same
#level, text, numbering, and order- Do not rename, reword, re-case, renumber, or add numbers to it
- Keep gaps and duplicates in the source numbering
- Do not add, merge, split, or reorder headers. Only headers deeper than
<MAX_HEADER_LEV>are removed - Header fidelity wins over the header rules of
markdown.rules.mdandtext.rules.md(e.g., starting at level 1, capitalizing major words, numbering in order)
What ships with it
1 file beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

markdown.summarize is a skill published in the GitHub repository gpsaggese/helpers (158 stars, last pushed today), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 12 tokens to every session and 2,171 once invoked, about $0.0000 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-11-06.
