review.create_code_tour

review.create_code_tour is a skill for Claude Code from gpsaggese/helpers. It costs 22 tokens per session (4,008 once invoked), scanned B, original, Apache-2.0.

A procedure for writing a three-level checklist that helps a person learn a directory's code, documentation, and tests. The levels cover a 15-minute overview, a one-hour study, and a full understanding.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create a time-labelled code tour with examples, tests, and an end-to-end demonstration, based on the directory's review roadmap.
Why use it?
It gives readers a planned way to explore unfamiliar code without requiring them to read everything at once.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00022 $0.04008
Opus 5.5 $0.00009 $0.01603
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00004 $0.00802
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00401

Security

Grade B, and why

review.create_code_tour scanned grade B with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 303 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Goal

  • Given a dir, write code_tour.md: a markdown checklist that guides a human through the code, docs, and tests of that dir
  • Split it into exactly three levels:
    • Level 1: "Understand in 15 mins"
    • Level 2: "Understand in 1 hour"
    • Level 3: "Understand in full"
    • Do not add or rename a level. Each level adds items to the levels before it
    • A reader can stop after any level and still know the dir at that depth
  • Give the time of every item, so the reader can plan the work
  • Include examples and tests to run, so the reader sees how the code behaves
  • Include the end-to-end demo in Level 3, from code_demo.md of the dir
    • The skill .claude/skills/review.create_demo/SKILL.md writes this file
    • The tour does not explain the output: it points to the file
  • Take files, kinds, reading times, and code order from the # Review roadmap section of the dir README.md
    • The skill .claude/skills/readme_dir.create/SKILL.md writes this section
    • The checklist does not repeat the map or the file table

Conventions

  • Follow the template .claude/templates/review_create_code_tour.template.md
    • It has no # Map of the Dir: the map is in the README
  • Write the text following .claude/skills/text.rules.md and .claude/skills/markdown.rules.md
    • Use - [ ] for every checkbox, never a bare [ ]
  • In Level 3 items, refer to .claude/skills/coding.rules.md (Python) and .claude/skills/testing.rules.md (tests)
  • Take how to run the tests from the ## Testing subsection of the roadmap

Workflow

Get the Input

  • Take the dir from the arguments, or the current dir if none is given
    • If the dir does not exist, report the error and stop
  • Compute the dir path from the repo root:
    > git rev-parse --show-toplevel

  • Write the output as code_tour.md in the dir. The name is fixed: it does not follow ## Generated File Naming of .claude/skills/skill.rules.md
    • If the file exists, read it, then overwrite it. Keep the ticked items that are still in the new checklist
  • Take the dir README.md
    • If it is missing or has no # Review roadmap section, report the error and stop. Tell the user to run .claude/skills/readme_dir.create/SKILL.md on the dir first
  • Take the dir code_demo.md
    • If it is missing, report the error and stop. Tell the user to run .claude/skills/review.create_demo/SKILL.md on the dir first

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
