Getting it into your agent
One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5 | $0.00153 | $0.00919 |
| Opus 5 | $0.00077 | $0.00460 |

Grade A, and why
arxiv-explainer scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 57 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
arxiv-explainer
Turn a paper into an animated HTML explainer, link it into your knowledge graph, and learn from each run. Maker/verifier loop per paper; durable lessons compound across runs.
When to use
The user hands you an ML/CV/AI paper (arXiv id/URL or local PDF) and wants to understand or
present it. Not for non-paper docs (use explainer-slides) or pure capture without an
explainer (use paper-to-mindmap).
Reuse (don't reinvent)
explainer-slides— theme + verify checklist. Default theme is now apple-dark (seeapple-dark-webapp: shared.css, three.js r128, 8-animation hero library); use a three.js hero as the title figure. Legacy cartographic template on request.paper-to-mindmap— the mindmap ingest protocol (verbatim, in P3).- atlassian MCP — Confluence search.
burgess_voice— the prose.editorial-dark-atlas— figure palette when a figure needs one.
Procedure
Follow references/pipeline.md phases P0–P7 in order:
P0 preflight + read memory → P1 acquire & distill → P2 extract figures → P3 knowledge graph
(read + Confluence search + mindmap ingest) → P4 build explainer (maker) → P5 verify loop
(independent verifier, budget 3) → P6 capture user feedback → P7 learn (auto-tune memory).
Read at P0, every run: LESSONS.md, references/rubric.md, references/patterns.md.
State lives at $MINDGAP_HOME/learning/arxiv-explainer/. If LESSONS.md is missing, create it
from templates/LESSONS.stub.md — a fresh install starts with an empty ledger.
Media toolkit (compose per figure; see references/patterns.md)
Animated SVG/CSS · annotated paper figures · generated video (manim / mpl→ffmpeg) · interactive JS widgets. Target ≥3 animated figures spanning ≥2 techniques (rubric §8).
Degradation (never hard-fail on a missing OPTIONAL tool; see preflight.sh)
| Missing | Fallback |
|---|---|
| manim AND ffmpeg | drop generated video → SVG/CSS + widgets; warn in loop.md |
| pymupdf AND pdftoppm | no paper screenshots → SVG-only figures; warn |
| mindmap CLI AND MCP | skip ingest + read; note blocker in connections.md (no silent fail) |
| atlassian MCP | skip Confluence search; mindmap-only knowledge-graph section |
| Cannot read the PDF at all → abort with a clear message. |

What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

arxiv-explainer is a skill published in the GitHub repository grburgess/mindgap (0 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 153 tokens to every session and 919 once invoked, about $0.0008 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
