Getting it into your agent

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5.1 | $0.00157 | $0.05684 |
| Opus 5.5 | $0.00063 | $0.02274 |
| Sonnet 5.5 | $0.00031 | $0.01137 |
| Haiku 4.5 | $0.00016 | $0.00568 |
Grade A, and why
inbox-to-mindmap scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 23d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 420 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
inbox-to-mindmap
A folder is a staging area, not a filing cabinet. The user drops documents into
~/second_brain/inbox/; this skill reads them, puts the information into the
graph, and archives the file to ~/second_brain/raw/. The documents themselves
never become nodes — each one survives only as a file:// provenance URL (to
its archived location) on the claims it produced.
That distinction is the whole point. A node called "Q3 architecture review deck" is a filename with extra steps: to use it you have to re-open the deck. A node called "Hybrid BM25 + dense retrieval beat dense-only by 14 points on internal eval" is knowledge — it answers a question on its own, links to other ideas, and gains confidence when a second document says the same thing. Nodes shaped like documents make a graph that mirrors a directory; nodes shaped like claims make a graph that thinks.
The binding ingest protocol is AGENTS.md. The rules that
matter most here are repeated below.
Layout
| Thing | Default | Override |
|---|---|---|
| Inbox folder | ~/second_brain/inbox/ |
$MINDGAP_INBOX, or a path the user names |
| Archive | ~/second_brain/raw/ |
— |
| Ledger | ~/.mindgap/inbox-ledger.json |
--ledger |
The inbox is a drop zone, not a home: once a file's claims have landed (or it is
marked skipped), it MOVES to the archive — ~/second_brain/raw/YYYY/<topic>/
(S9.5). Files are never renamed beyond collision handling and never deleted; the
archive is immutable ground truth. The ledger records sha256 → what was ingested, and dedup is by content hash, so moves are safe: a second run over the
emptied inbox does nothing, and an edited re-drop returns as changed and gets
re-read. If the inbox does not exist, say so and offer to create it rather than
inventing a different path.
Pipeline
S1 — Scan (recursive)
python3 <skill>/scripts/scan_inbox.py [DIR] > /tmp/inbox.json
Walks the whole tree, at any depth. Every pending file comes back with status
(new, changed, done, unsupported, skipped-large), its rel path, its
folder, and the folder's segments. The same records are also grouped under
folders, each with its context_files listed separately.
What ships with it
2 files beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

inbox-to-mindmap is a skill published in the GitHub repository grburgess/mindgap (0 stars, last pushed 23d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 157 tokens to every session and 5,684 once invoked, about $0.0006 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-04.
