nebula-tv: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/new-widget/SKILL.md

new-widget is a skill for Claude Code from gsbakshi/nebula-tv. It costs 45 tokens per session (507 once invoked), scanned A, original, MPL-2.0.

A scaffold for adding a home-screen widget to the Nebula Android app. It connects a data source to a lifecycle-aware refresh model and a Compose UI with loading, successful, outdated-cache, and error states.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create widgets for NASA imagery, weather, RSS feeds, calendar data, or another REST, Android system, or local source.
Why use it?
It avoids wiring data fetching, refresh timing, cached results, and screen state separately for every widget.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00045 $0.00507
Opus 5 $0.00023 $0.00253
Sonnet 5 $0.00009 $0.00101
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00051

Security

Grade A, and why

new-widget scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Create a new widget. Ask for:

  1. Widget name (e.g., "NasaApod", "RssFeed", "Weather")
  2. Data source (REST API / Android ContentProvider / local)
  3. Refresh interval (Daily / 30min / 15min / Real-time observer)

Files to Create

1. app/src/main/java/com/example/nebula/widgets/{Name}Widget.kt

The Composable UI for the widget. Uses WidgetState<T> pattern with Loading/Success/Stale/Error states. Stale state shows cached data + a "last updated X min ago" indicator.

2. app/src/main/java/com/example/nebula/widgets/{Name}DataSource.kt

Data fetching layer:

  • REST APIs: OkHttp (already in GeckoView transitive deps) or Retrofit if added
  • ContentProvider: Calendar, Contacts via context.contentResolver
  • NASA APOD: https://api.nasa.gov/planetary/apod?api_key=BuildConfig.NASA_API_KEY
  • Weather: https://api.open-meteo.com/v1/forecast (free, no key)
  • RSS: Parse with XmlPullParser or ROME library

3. app/src/main/java/com/example/nebula/widgets/{Name}ViewModel.kt

  • MutableStateFlow<WidgetState<T>> initialized with Loading
  • repeatOnLifecycle(Lifecycle.State.STARTED) for refresh loop
  • SupervisorJob scope (failure isolated)
  • Stale-on-error: preserve last Success data when refresh fails
  • SavedStateHandle for persistence across config changes

Template Reference

See WidgetTemplate.kt in this directory.

Architecture Reference

Consult the widget-architect agent for lifecycle patterns, API rate limiting, and caching strategy.

After Scaffolding

  1. Add BuildConfig fields for any API keys in app/build.gradle.kts
  2. Add keys to local.properties (git-ignored)
  3. Run ./gradlew assembleDebug to verify
  4. Run the compose-performance-reviewer agent on the new widget
Files

What ships with it

1 file beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
