F# & Configuration Architecture

F# & Configuration Architecture is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from GuitarAlchemist/ga. It costs 24 tokens per session (795 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A development guide for F#, YAML configuration files, and cooperation between F# and C# code. YAML is a human-readable format often used for structured settings.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when writing F# components, defining YAML schemas, storing static domain data, deserializing settings, or exposing F# records to C#.
Why use it?
It gives a shared way to structure code, types, configuration data, and serialization across these parts of a project.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00024 $0.00795
Opus 5 $0.00012 $0.00398
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00159
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00080

Security

Grade A, and why

F# & Configuration Architecture scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

F# & Configuration Architecture

This skill governs the development of the F# components (GA.MusicTheory.DSL, GA.Business.Config) and the YAML configuration architecture they support.

1. F# Coding Standards

1.1 Style & Layout

  • Indent: 4 spaces.
  • Naming: camelCase for values/functions, PascalCase for types/modules.
  • Modules: Use module MyModule = for grouping helper functions.
  • Pipelines: Prefer |> for data transformations.

1.2 Type Design

  • Immutability: Use immutable records and DUs (Discriminated Unions) by default.
  • CLIMutable: Add [<CLIMutable>] to records used in YAML deserialization or C# interop.
  • Options: Use Option<'T> for nullability.
type TuningInfo = { Name: string; Tuning: string }

module TuningHelpers =
    let formatTuning t = $"%s{t.Name}: %s{t.Tuning}"

2. Configuration Architecture (YAML)

All static domain data (Scales, Instruments, Voicings) is stored in YAML in GA.Business.Config.

2.1 YAML Schema Rules

  • Naming: Keys must be PascalCase (e.g., IntervalClassVector, ModalFamilies).
  • Structure: Hierarchical data preferred.
  • Serialization: Handled by YamlDotNet.

2.2 Loading Pattern

Use the standard loader pattern found in InstrumentsConfig.fs or ModesConfig.fs:

  1. Define DTOs: Create CLIMutable records matching the YAML structure.
  2. Locate File: Check multiple locations (Bin, Repo Root, Config subfolder) to support Test vs Run environments.
  3. Deserialize: Use DeserializerBuilder().WithNamingConvention(PascalCaseNamingConvention.Instance).
  4. Fallback: Always provide a minimal hardcoded fall back if the file is missing to prevent crash-loops.
let private loadData () =
    try
        let yaml = File.ReadAllText(path)
        deserializer.Deserialize<MyConfig>(yaml)
    with _ ->
        defaultData // Fallback

3. C# Interop (The Bridge)

3.1 Handling Results

Convert F# Result<'T, 'Error> to C# logic:

var result = service.DoWork();
if (result.IsOk) { ... result.ResultValue ... }

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

F# & Configuration Architecture is a skill published in the GitHub repository GuitarAlchemist/ga (2 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 24 tokens to every session and 795 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
