boring-loop-plan

boring-loop-plan is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from hachej/boring-ui. It costs 54 tokens per session (380 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A planning workflow for a GitHub issue or pull request that is too large, unclear, risky, or spread across several slices of work.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to inspect the issue, related changes, comments, plans, and code, then create or update a plan file, propose slices, and identify the next action.
Why use it?
It turns uncertain work into an issue-linked plan with a clear acceptance check, implementation path, evidence to collect, and unresolved blockers.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00054 $0.00380
Opus 5 $0.00027 $0.00190
Sonnet 5 $0.00011 $0.00076
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00038

Measured 4d ago against content hash eba3bd708e08, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

boring-loop-plan scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Boring Loop Plan

Create the smallest useful plan for one GitHub issue.

Canonical model: ../../../../../docs/kanzen/boring-loop.md. Plan file rules: ../../../../../docs/kanzen/procedures/issue-plans.md. Trunk/flag/review budget: ../../../../../docs/kanzen/procedures/trunk-flags-review-budget.md.

Steps

  1. Read the issue, related PRs, newest owner comments, existing plan files, and relevant code/docs.
  2. Decide whether inline issue planning is enough or a plan file is required.
  3. If a plan file is required, create or update docs/issues/<issue-number>/plan.md or plan-<slice>.md.
  4. Include: decision, flag/abstraction path, acceptance, slices, proof, open blockers.
  5. Keep slices near the review budget; propose stacked PRs only when needed.
  6. Run thermo review on risky, broad, or multi-PR plans.
  7. Comment the next action and session id on GitHub.
  8. Update labels to the first unmet next gate.

Exit

  • Clear enough for code: state:active phase:implement track:owner.
  • Still blocked: state:blocked phase:grill track:owner.
  • Plan-only done and waiting for owner: state:ready phase:merge track:owner.

Return a short card with URL, primary issue, plan file, flag, proof path, review budget, blockers, and exact next action.

Files

What ships with it

1 file beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
