basic-part

A guide for creating one dimensioned CAD solid, such as a plate, bracket, spacer, or simple housing half. The model is driven by named parameters so dimensions can be changed later.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for starting a CAD project, defining dimensions, building common solid features, inspecting and previewing the result, and exporting the finished part.
Why use it?
It reduces errors from scattered measurements and encourages inspection before the final CAD file is exported.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00000 $0.00479
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00239
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00096
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00048

Security

Grade A, and why

basic-part scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Basic Parametric Part

Purpose

Create a simple, fully dimensioned solid part using parameters, common features, inspect, preview, and export an authoritative CAD artefact.

Use when

  • Single parametric body (bracket, plate, spacer, simple housing half).
  • Dimensions may change later and should be driven by named parameters.

Do not use when

  • Assembling multiple parts (use assembly).
  • FDM manufacturability review only (use fdm-dfm).

Preconditions

  • REQUIRED: Live Battenmark project; units millimetres; X-right, Y-depth, Z-up.
  • RECOMMENDED: inspect_backend_capabilities if unsure about holes/fillets/export.

Planning rules

  1. Capture design intent in named parameters before geometry.
  2. Prefer expressions over duplicated constants.
  3. Prefer semantic selectors over raw topology indices.
  4. Inspect and preview before exporting.
  5. Discover live tool surface; do not invent tool names.
  1. REQUIREDproject_create / project_open.
  2. REQUIREDdefine_parameter for changeable dimensions.
  3. REQUIREDcreate_box / create_cylinder (box origin = min corner).
  4. RECOMMENDED — features: create_hole, fillet, chamfer, boolean.
  5. REQUIREDvalidaterender_previewrebuildexport_step / export_fcstd.

Geometry / mechanical rules

Units mm. Box origin = min corner. Keep hole diameter inside face. Fillet radius < half smallest adjacent dimension.

Verification gates

validate clean; preview matches intent; export returns artifact_id.

Failure recovery

Read structured error; refine selectors via inspect_*; backend issues → backend-diagnostics. Never private FreeCAD Python or shell.

Outputs

Parametric model, validation result, preview, export artefact IDs.

Platform notes

Provider-neutral; backend-neutral intent. Discover capabilities when optional features needed.

Examples

Parametric plate with four mounting holes: parameters → create_box → four create_hole → validate → render_preview → export_step. Replace example numbers with real values.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

basic-part is a skill published in the GitHub repository halsyourpal422/Battenmark (0 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed Apache-2.0. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 479 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
