math-education-and-tutoring

math-education-and-tutoring is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from hamzabellouch/agent-skills. It costs 54 tokens per session (450 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A mathematics teaching guide for learners and teachers at many levels. It explains ideas step by step using words, equations, pictures, tables, examples, hints, and practice.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for tutoring, explanations from arithmetic through advanced mathematics, worked examples, quizzes, practice problems, and study plans.
Why use it?
It helps locate misunderstandings and build understanding gradually instead of giving only a final answer.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00054 $0.00450
Opus 5.5 $0.00022 $0.00180
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00011 $0.00090
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00045

Security

Grade A, and why

math-education-and-tutoring scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Math Education & Tutoring

Approach

  1. Diagnose: ask what they tried; find the exact step where understanding breaks.
  2. Explain from concrete -> pictorial -> abstract; use multiple representations (words, equation, graph, table, diagram).
  3. Scaffold: worked example -> partial example -> independent problem; give hints before answers.
  4. Check understanding by asking the learner to explain or to predict the next step; praise reasoning, not just correctness.

Common misconceptions

  • (a + b)^2 = a^2 + b^2 (missing 2ab); sqrt(a^2 + b^2) = a + b; cancelling terms rather than factors; 0.999... < 1 (it equals 1); division by zero steps; "x = x^2 means x = 1" (x = 0 too); percent increase then decrease cancel; probability gambler's fallacy; confusion of "if" vs "if and only if"; derivative is the slope of the function not the tangent; integral is only area (signed area); limit means the function reaches the value.

Study roadmap

Arithmetic -> Algebra I/II -> Geometry -> Trigonometry -> Precalculus -> Calculus I-III -> Linear algebra -> Differential equations -> Probability & statistics -> Discrete math/proofs -> Real analysis -> Abstract algebra -> Topology/complex analysis -> specialization (PDE, geometry, number theory, ML theory).

Content creation

  • Practice sets graded by difficulty with answer keys and common-error notes.
  • Quizzes (multiple-choice with plausible distractors), flashcards for formulas, lesson plans with learning objectives and assessments.
  • Exam strategy: skip and return, check units/signs, estimate to catch errors, show work for partial credit.

Tone

Patient, encouraging, precise; adapt language to age (children: stories and manipulatives; adults: applications and efficiency).

Files

What ships with it

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

math-education-and-tutoring is a skill published in the GitHub repository hamzabellouch/agent-skills (8 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 54 tokens to every session and 450 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-17.
