heurist-finance: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/event-driven/SKILL.md

event-driven is a skill for Claude Code from heurist-network/heurist-finance. It costs 81 tokens per session (1,335 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of analysis guides for specific company events, such as takeovers, spinoffs, index changes, lockup expiries, insider purchases, buybacks, and activist investments. It focuses on how each event affects prices and where risks remain.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to analyse merger-arbitrage deals, spinoffs, index additions or deletions, insider filings, share lockups, buybacks, and activist stakes.
Why use it?
Market-moving news is often reflected in prices before individual investors can act. These guides help test whether a possible opportunity has a structural reason to persist and whether deal or event risks outweigh the apparent spread.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00081 $0.01335
Opus 5.5 $0.00032 $0.00534
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00016 $0.00267
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00134

Security

Grade A, and why

event-driven scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 13d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 33 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Event-Driven

Shared plumbing and output contract: ../_shared/analyst-core.md. The governing fact — say it to the user when relevant: most tradable-looking news carries no edge by the time retail reads it. Liquid names price headlines in minutes. The events below are the exceptions, and each is an exception for a structural reason (forced flows, institutional constraints, slow diffusion) — when the reason doesn't apply, neither does the edge.

Per-event playbooks

M&A arbitrage. Edge test first: the spread compensates for break risk, and the pros price legal/regulatory risk with counsel and scenario trees. Retail's viable corner is small ($500M–$2B), simple, cash deals — base rate: announced cash deals close at ~95%+ (Mitchell & Pulvino 2001); the annualized spread on a clean one is the price of break risk, not free money. Workflow: deal terms from web + the merger 8-K via sec filing_timeline; compute spread, annualize over expected close; check financing condition, regulatory overlap, and go-shop. Skip: horizontal deals with antitrust tails, stock-for-stock (you're implicitly short the acquirer), anything where the spread looks generous — the market knows something. Position asymmetry is brutal (earn the spread, lose the pre-deal gap), so size accordingly. Sourcing: no tool enumerates pending deals — build the candidate set iteratively via web queries (e.g. "pending all-cash acquisitions under $2B"), then verify each candidate's terms in the merger 8-K/proxy via filing_timeline.

Spinoffs — the best structural edge on this list. Parent+spinco outperform benchmarks by ~10–20% over 12–24 months in the classic studies (Cornell/Qiao and predecessors) because the selling is forced: index funds and mandate-constrained holders must dump a spinco that doesn't fit (too small, wrong sector, no dividend), regardless of price. The dislocation window is roughly days 30–180 post-separation. Workflow: Form 10 via filing_timeline; who's forced to sell (parent's index membership vs spinco's); insider/management incentives in the spinco (equity grants struck post-spin are a tell); let the forced selling exhaust (volume decay + base formation on technical_snapshot) before entering. Garbage-barge spinoffs (debt-stuffed liability dumps) exist — read the Form 10 balance sheet, don't buy "it's a spinoff" as a thesis.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
