heurist-finance: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/options-strategist/SKILL.md

options-strategist is a skill for Claude Code from heurist-network/heurist-finance. It costs 79 tokens per session (1,354 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An options strategy guide maps a market view to an options trade by considering direction, expected move, timing, and implied volatility. Options are contracts whose value depends on an underlying asset and can expire worthless.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to compare calls, puts, spreads, calendars, and income overlays, and to choose strikes, expiry, and management rules for a specific thesis.
Why use it?
The same view can produce very different results depending on the structure, expiry, strike, and price of volatility. This helps avoid expressing a correct market opinion through an unsuitable options position.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00079 $0.01354
Opus 5.5 $0.00032 $0.00542
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00016 $0.00271
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00135

Security

Grade A, and why

options-strategist scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 13d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Options Strategist

Shared plumbing and output contract: ../_shared/analyst-core.md. Options math conventions (price from bid on anything sold, report IV/OI/volume/spread per strike) and the coherence test live in trading-plan — this skill picks the structure; trading-plan sizes and commits it. Public options content is Greeks calculators and "17 strategies" catalogs; the actual skill is the mapping from view → structure, which is what this file encodes.

Step 1 — Make the view explicit on four axes

No structure choice is possible until the view is stated as: direction (up / down / flat / "not down"), magnitude (drift vs repricing — is the move bigger or smaller than what's priced?), deadline (is there a date by which it must happen, or is it open-ended?), and conviction on timing vs level. State also whether this is a new position or an overlay on stock already held — for an income overlay (covered calls on an existing holding), the axes apply to the combined position (stock + short call), not the option leg alone. Most bad options trades are a correct directional view expressed on the wrong axis — long calls for a view with no deadline, short puts for a view with a crash tail.

Step 2 — Read the vol surface before choosing

  • IV Rank (current IV vs its own 52-week range — no IV history in this stack, so proxy with the current ATM IV's percentile vs 1y realized-vol history per the core convention, labeled as proxy): IVR > 50 tilts toward net-selling structures, IVR < 20 toward net-buying. Per-strike IV and BS delta come from hf_tool.py options SYM --expiry .... But rank alone is the public-content trap —
  • Term structure decides the rest: loop yahoo options_chain symbol=SYM expiration=... moneyness=atm limit_contracts=6 across expirations and read ATM IV per expiry. Contango (front < back) is the normal state and a mild short-front tailwind; an event hump (one expiry's IV spiked) means an earnings/catalyst date lives there — check equity_overview for the earnings date and never sell that expiry "for the juicy premium" without pricing the gap (see earnings-play).
  • Implied vs realized spread: implied minus 20d/60d realized vol is the actual premium being paid. Selling options at IV below realized is picking up nickels at a discount.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
