heurist-finance: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/sector-rotation/SKILL.md

sector-rotation is a skill for Claude Code from heurist-network/heurist-finance. It costs 83 tokens per session (1,150 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A sector-rotation analysis compares groups of companies, such as technology or energy, and how their performance relates to the wider market. It combines relative strength with economic-cycle and interest-rate sensitivity.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to rank sectors, decide which groups to overweight or underweight, check what is inside a sector fund, and assess whether a sector move has support.
Why use it?
A good company can struggle when its whole sector is out of favour, while a sector move may be too narrow or temporary to trust. This helps assess whether sector leadership is broad and likely to persist.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00083 $0.01150
Opus 5.5 $0.00033 $0.00460
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00017 $0.00230
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00115

Measured 13d ago against content hash d409327bfe36, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

sector-rotation scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 13d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Sector Rotation

Shared plumbing and output contract: ../_shared/analyst-core.md. Sector selection explains a large share of a stock pick's return — a right stock in a wrong sector fights the tide the whole hold. Two engines drive this skill: relative strength (empirically the stronger one — momentum works notably well at the sector/industry level, where trends persist longer than in single names) and the cycle template (useful map, unreliable clock).

The relative-strength engine (primary)

Data: prices on the SPDR set (XLK XLF XLE XLV XLI XLP XLY XLU XLB XLC XLRE) vs SPY, 6mo–2y; technical_snapshot symbols=... batched; fund_snapshot for what's actually inside a sector ETF (XLK's concentration means "tech sector" ≈ three stocks — always check before treating an ETF as a diversified sector view).

  • Rank sectors by 3- and 6-month return vs SPY (computed, not recalled). Industry/sector momentum was Moskowitz & Grinblatt's finding before stock momentum got the fame — persistent enough that the top-3-sectors-by-RS rule has real backing. New leadership (a sector crossing into the top ranks after quarters at the bottom) is more information-rich than incumbency.
  • Confirm with breadth inside the sector: a sector rally led by one mega-cap while the median member lags is a stock story wearing a sector costume (check equal-weight variants — RSP-style — via prices, or eyeball top-holdings dispersion from technical_snapshot on the ETF's top names). Broad participation = allocatable theme; narrow = pick the stock instead, or skip.
  • Duration of a rotation: sector leadership regimes historically persist quarters, not days — which is exactly the user's horizon. A two-week bounce in last year's loser sector is more often short-covering than rotation; demand a month-plus of RS improvement plus a macro reason before calling it a turn.

The cycle template (secondary — map, not clock)

The classic sequence — early cycle: financials, consumer discretionary, industrials; mid: tech, materials; late: energy, staples, healthcare; recession: staples, utilities, duration proxies. It's a real tendency with an honest caveat the user must hear: cycle phase is only identifiable with confidence in hindsight, and the sequence has broken in structurally driven markets (2020's tech-led "recession", AI capex overriding rate sensitivity). Use the template to explain and cross-check an RS reading ("energy leading + curve steepening = late-cycle-consistent"), never to front-run a phase the data hasn't confirmed.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

sector-rotation is a skill published in the GitHub repository heurist-network/heurist-finance (11 stars, last pushed 14d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 83 tokens to every session and 1,150 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-24.
