heurist-finance: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/small-cap-scout/SKILL.md

small-cap-scout is a skill for Claude Code from heurist-network/heurist-finance. It costs 86 tokens per session (1,178 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A small-company stock analysis method that checks whether a stock can be bought and sold at a reasonable cost before judging its story. It also looks for warning signs of promotion, manipulation, weak business quality, and very low trading activity.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to assess small- or micro-cap stocks, screen for investable ideas, and check whether a planned position can be exited without greatly moving the price.
Why use it?
Small-company shares can have wide price gaps and too few buyers, making it hard to enter or exit without losing money. This approach puts those trading risks ahead of an appealing investment narrative.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00086 $0.01178
Opus 5.5 $0.00034 $0.00471
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00017 $0.00236
Haiku 4.5 $0.00009 $0.00118

Security

Grade A, and why

small-cap-scout scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 13d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Small-Cap Scout

Shared plumbing and output contract: ../_shared/analyst-core.md. Small caps are where retail's structural advantage lives (institutions can't buy what won't absorb their size) and where retail gets hunted (illiquidity, promotion, information vacuum). The skill is running the tradeability and integrity gates before falling in love with the story — in that order, because the story is always good; that's what promotions are for.

Gate 1 — Tradeability arithmetic (before any analysis)

From quote_snapshot + prices SYM --period 6mo --full --out FILE compute average daily dollar volume (ADV) and typical spread:

  • Spread tax: names under ~$1M ADV cost 1–3% round trip in spread and slippage. Annualized over the user's multi-week turnover, any thesis must clear that hurdle before having edge. State the number.
  • Position-vs-ADV rule: intended position ≤ ~1–5% of ADV, sized so a 3-day exit without moving price >1–2% is realistic. The Amihud illiquidity premium (~0.5–1%/month in-sample) is real but non-linear — the bottom liquidity decile is where the premium lives and where retail size can't actually enter and exit; owning it on paper and capturing it are different things.
  • Exit stress test: what does getting out look like on the worst day (halt reopens, guidance cut)? If the answer is "I'm trapped," the position size is the problem even when the thesis is right.

Gate 2 — Integrity screen (is this a business or a promotion?)

The microcap manipulation profile is well-defined — check all of these (equity_overview, insider_activity, filing_timeline, web for promotion history):

  • The pump signature: < $300M cap + < $5M daily volume + recent +100% move on no filing-linked news + paid-promotion trail (stock "newsletters," X spam) → halt/manipulation risk dominates any thesis; decline the name and say why.
  • Dilution machine check: history of shelf offerings, convertibles, warrants (S-1/S-3/424B in filing_timeline; share count trend via xbrl_fact_trends). A company that funds operations by printing shares transfers your upside to itself — cash runway < 4 quarters makes the next offering your event risk.
  • Reverse-split history, auditor tier, going-concern language, insider selling into strength, and float held by insiders (small real float = squeeze/rug both ways).
  • Sub-$50M-float runners after +100%: you are the exit liquidity for insiders; hard pass regardless of narrative.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
