hexgate: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/run-platform/SKILL.md

run-platform is a skill for Claude Code from HexamindOrganisation/hexgate. It costs 117 tokens per session (2,732 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A procedure for starting the Hexgate platform on a local computer. It can launch the FastAPI server and React dashboard, with an optional telemetry pipeline, after checking required tools, services, and available ports.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to run Hexgate locally, open its dashboard, and obtain the first local administrator login details.
Why use it?
It helps developers get a local development instance running without accidentally targeting staging or production. It also reports what is missing when the local setup cannot start.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00117 $0.02732
Opus 5.5 $0.00047 $0.01093
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00023 $0.00546
Haiku 4.5 $0.00012 $0.00273

Security

Grade A, and why

run-platform scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (instance.sh, preflight.sh), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Makes network callslowCapability

Not a fault in itself. Listed so you know the mod talks to something, and to what.

- This checkout, wrong mode: `kill <pid>` with the pid `who` printed, wait until `curl -sf -m 2 localhost:8000/health` fails, then start the right target in step 3.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 173 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Run the hexgate platform locally

Scope: your own machine only. This skill runs dev servers on localhost against local SQLite or Docker databases. It does not start, stop, or log into staging or prod. Those are deploy stacks (make platform-up STAGE=staging|prod, see platform/DEPLOY.md). If the user asks for staging or prod, point them there and don't run anything from this skill against them.

Goal: a running instance the user can log into. End with the URL, email, and password, or with exactly what is missing.

Works on macOS and Linux. The paths and make targets below are relative to the repo root, and each command runs in a fresh shell, so start every command with this line (it also sets the log directory used from step 3 on):

cd "$(git rev-parse --show-toplevel)" && LOGDIR="/tmp/hexgate-$(basename "$PWD")" && mkdir -p "$LOGDIR"

1. Preflight

.claude/skills/run-platform/preflight.sh # light mode
.claude/skills/run-platform/preflight.sh --full # full pipeline
  • Any MISS line: stop and give the user the install hint the script printed.
  • 8000 busy: an API may already be running, but /health looks the same whatever database it uses, so check with .claude/skills/run-platform/instance.sh who before reusing it. Reuse it only when its checkout is this one and its target fits the mode you pick below: make platform-api for light, make platform-api-pg (or a Postgres DATABASE_URL) for full. A light-mode API under a full pipeline looks healthy, but the collector rejects every key it mints with 401.
    • This checkout, wrong mode: kill <pid> with the pid who printed, wait until curl -sf -m 2 localhost:8000/health fails, then start the right target in step 3.
    • Another checkout: ask the user before stopping it; it may be in use.
    • not a hexgate API on :8000: tell the user what holds the port.
  • 5173 busy: fine if it's another checkout's dashboard; Vite starts this one on the next free port, and step 3 finds it.
  • 4317/4318 busy in full mode: a collector is already running. make collector-run would fail on it, so find out whose it is before starting yours.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

run-platform is a skill published in the GitHub repository HexamindOrganisation/hexgate (23 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 117 tokens to every session and 2,732 once invoked, about $0.0005 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-26.
