gitnexus-cli

gitnexus-cli is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from hifriendbot/cogmemai-mcp. It costs 59 tokens per session (782 once invoked), scanned A, a copy of gitnexus-cli, MIT.

A command-line tool for analyzing a Git repository and building an index of its files, symbols, and relationships. It can also check the index, remove it, generate a project wiki, and create context files for coding agents.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to index or re-index a project, check index freshness, enable semantic search embeddings, clean a broken index, generate a wiki, or list indexed repositories.
Why use it?
It gives an agent a searchable map of a codebase and shows when that map is out of date, which makes repository-wide work easier to navigate.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00059 $0.00782
Opus 5 $0.00030 $0.00391
Sonnet 5 $0.00012 $0.00156
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00078

Security

Grade A, and why

gitnexus-cli scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

GitNexus CLI Commands

All commands work via npx — no global install required.

Commands

analyze — Build or refresh the index

npx gitnexus analyze

Run from the project root. This parses all source files, builds the knowledge graph, writes it to .gitnexus/, and generates CLAUDE.md / AGENTS.md context files.

Flag Effect
--force Force full re-index even if up to date
--embeddings Enable embedding generation for semantic search (off by default)

When to run: First time in a project, after major code changes, or when gitnexus://repo/{name}/context reports the index is stale. In Claude Code, a PostToolUse hook runs analyze automatically after git commit and git merge, preserving embeddings if previously generated.

status — Check index freshness

npx gitnexus status

Shows whether the current repo has a GitNexus index, when it was last updated, and symbol/relationship counts. Use this to check if re-indexing is needed.

clean — Delete the index

npx gitnexus clean

Deletes the .gitnexus/ directory and unregisters the repo from the global registry. Use before re-indexing if the index is corrupt or after removing GitNexus from a project.

Flag Effect
--force Skip confirmation prompt
--all Clean all indexed repos, not just the current one

wiki — Generate documentation from the graph

npx gitnexus wiki

Generates repository documentation from the knowledge graph using an LLM. Requires an API key (saved to ~/.gitnexus/config.json on first use).

Flag Effect
--force Force full regeneration
--model <model> LLM model (default: minimax/minimax-m2.5)
--base-url <url> LLM API base URL
--api-key <key> LLM API key
--concurrency <n> Parallel LLM calls (default: 3)
--gist Publish wiki as a public GitHub Gist

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
