stock-correlation

stock-correlation is a skill for Claude Code from himself65/finance-skills. It costs 208 tokens per session (3,496 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A tool for comparing how stock prices have moved together over time, using historical data from Yahoo Finance. Correlation shows whether two stocks often rise and fall together; it does not prove that one causes the other to move.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to find stocks related to a ticker, measure the relationship between several stocks, or investigate pairs that may have similar price movements.
Why use it?
It helps replace guesswork when looking for related companies, sector peers, or possible trading pairs. The results are for research and education, not financial advice.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00208 $0.03496
Opus 5 $0.00104 $0.01748
Sonnet 5 $0.00042 $0.00699
Haiku 4.5 $0.00021 $0.00350

Security

Grade A, and why

stock-correlation scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Runs shell commandslowCapability

Expected in a hook, worth knowing in a rule or an instructions file.

Stock Correlation Analysis Skill

Finds and analyzes correlated stocks using historical price data from Yahoo Finance via yfinance. Routes to specialized sub-skills based on user intent.

Important: This is for research and educational purposes only. Not financial advice. yfinance is not affiliated with Yahoo, Inc.

Step 1: Ensure Dependencies Are Available

Current environment status:

!`python3 -c "exec('try:\n import yfinance, pandas, numpy\n print(f\'yfinance={yfinance.__version__} pandas={pandas.__version__} numpy={numpy.__version__}\')\nexcept Exception:\n print(\'DEPS_MISSING\')')"`

If DEPS_MISSING, install required packages before running any code:

import subprocess, sys
subprocess.check_call([sys.executable, "-m", "pip", "install", "-q", "yfinance", "pandas", "numpy"])

If all dependencies are already installed, skip the install step and proceed directly.

Step 2: Route to the Correct Sub-Skill

Classify the user's request and jump to the matching sub-skill section below.

User Request Route To Examples
Single ticker, wants to find related stocks Sub-Skill A: Co-movement Discovery "what correlates with NVDA", "find stocks related to AMD", "sympathy plays for TSLA"
Two or more specific tickers, wants relationship details Sub-Skill B: Return Correlation "correlation between AMD and NVDA", "how do LITE and COHR move together", "compare AAPL vs MSFT"
Group of tickers, wants structure/grouping Sub-Skill C: Sector Clustering "correlation matrix for FAANG", "cluster these semiconductor stocks", "sector peers for AMD"
Wants time-varying or conditional correlation Sub-Skill D: Realized Correlation "rolling correlation AMD NVDA", "when NVDA drops what else drops", "how has correlation changed"

If ambiguous, default to Sub-Skill A (Co-movement Discovery) for single tickers, or Sub-Skill B (Return Correlation) for two tickers.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

stock-correlation is a skill published in the GitHub repository himself65/finance-skills (3,298 stars, last pushed 12d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 208 tokens to every session and 3,496 once invoked, about $0.0010 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (runs shell commands). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
