get-vtable-index

get-vtable-index is a skill for Claude Code from HLND2T/CS2_VibeSignatures. It costs 69 tokens per session (982 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A reverse-engineering aid for finding where a virtual function appears in a class's vtable, a table of pointers to virtual functions. It uses IDA Pro, a program for inspecting compiled binaries.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to find a virtual function's offset and index in a Windows or Linux binary, using the class name and function address.
Why use it?
It removes the need to count vtable entries by hand when you already know a function's address and need its table position.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00069 $0.00982
Opus 5.5 $0.00028 $0.00393
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00014 $0.00196
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00098

Security

Grade A, and why

get-vtable-index scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Get VTable Index

Find a function's position (offset and index) within a vtable by iterating through vtable entries.

Prerequisites

  • Function address (from decompilation or xrefs)
  • ClassName (to get vtable via get-vtable-address skill)
  • platform (either windows or linux, depending on the binary we are analyzing)
  • An IDA Pro MCP session, resolved per mcp-ida-session.md: idb_list → idb_open (script fallback only if the endpoint is unreachable). Honor its IDB save discipline — an idle-TTL self-exit does not save.

Method

1. Load vtable YAML and find function index:

ALWAYS first check if {ClassName}_vtable.{platform}.yaml exists beside the binary, then search for the function in vtable_entries:

mcp__ida-pro-mcp__py_eval code="""
import idaapi
import yaml
import os

# === REQUIRED: Replace these values ===
class_name = "<ClassName>"        # e.g., "CCSPlayerPawn"
func_addr = <FUNC_ADDRESS>        # Target function address to find
# ======================================

input_file = idaapi.get_input_file_path()
dir_path = os.environ.get('CS2VIBE_ARTIFACT_DIR') or os.path.dirname(input_file)
platform = 'windows' if input_file.endswith('.dll') else 'linux'

yaml_path = os.path.join(dir_path, f"{class_name}_vtable.{platform}.yaml")

if not os.path.exists(yaml_path):
    print(f"ERROR: Required file {class_name}_vtable.{platform}.yaml not found.")
    print(f"Expected path: {yaml_path}")
    print(f"Please run `/find-{class_name}_vtable` first to generate the vtable YAML file.")
else:
    with open(yaml_path, 'r', encoding='utf-8') as f:
        data = yaml.safe_load(f)

    vtable_entries = data.get('vtable_entries', {})
    vtable_va = data.get('vtable_va')
    ptr_size = 8 if idaapi.inf_is_64bit() else 4

    for idx, entry in vtable_entries.items():
        # Handle both int and hex string formats
        i = int(idx) if isinstance(idx, str) else idx
        entry_addr = int(entry, 16) if isinstance(entry, str) else entry
        if entry_addr == func_addr:
            offset = i * ptr_size
            print(f"Found at vfunc_offset: {hex(offset)}, vfunc_index: {i}")
            print(f"vtable_va: {hex(vtable_va) if isinstance(vtable_va, int) else vtable_va}")
            break
    else:
        print(f"Function {hex(func_addr)} not found in {class_name} vtable entries!")
"""

get-vtable-index is a skill published in the GitHub repository HLND2T/CS2_VibeSignatures (67 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 69 tokens to every session and 982 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
