shopping

shopping is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Hmbown/Codewhale. It costs 0 tokens per session (238 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A web-research workflow for comparing products, prices, reviews, and deal history. It helps someone choose what to buy but does not place orders, add items to carts, or create store accounts.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to research products, make a shortlist, compare specifications and prices, evaluate reviews, and give one recommendation with its tradeoff.
Why use it?
It turns a vague buying request into a comparison based on budget, required features, and deal-breakers. It also separates editorial research from sponsored results and notes when price history is unavailable.

About the project

Codewhale is an open-source coding agent that runs in the terminal and can read repositories, edit files, execute commands, and inspect results while pursuing a task. Developers use it with hosted providers or local models, with controls for how much access it receives.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.00238
Opus 5.5 $0.00000 $0.00095
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00000 $0.00048
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00024

Measured 29d ago against content hash 71e5ac124c76, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

shopping scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 29d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

name: shopping description: Product research — compare options, prices, and reviews. Use when: buy, shopping, product recommendation, compare prices, best X to buy, or is this a good deal. invocation: model+user

Shopping

When to use

Helping the user choose what to buy: shortlists, comparisons, price checks, and deal evaluation.

Setup

None — web research only. Fail loud when the request needs a logged-in store account (order history, cart).

Workflow

  1. Pin the budget, must-have features, and deal-breakers before researching.
  2. Research with web search: reviews, roundups, and retailer listings.
  3. Present a comparison table (option, price, key specs, standout review point), then one recommendation with its tradeoff.
  4. For deal questions, check price history where available (e.g. camelcamelcamel for Amazon) and say when history is unavailable.

Non-goals

  • Do not purchase anything or enter payment details. Ever.
  • Do not add to carts or create store accounts.
  • Do not present sponsored results as editorial picks.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
