quality-engineering-api-testing

quality-engineering-api-testing is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from HoangNguyen0403/agent-skills-standard. It costs 46 tokens per session (1,255 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An API testing guide for checking whether web service endpoints behave correctly in real business situations.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps choose smoke, functional, contract, integration, and regression tests, including checks for database state, error details, retries, and idempotency.
Why use it?
A successful HTTP response or valid data shape alone does not prove that calculations, state changes, permissions, or business rules are correct.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00046 $0.01255
Opus 5.5 $0.00018 $0.00502
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00009 $0.00251
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00126

Security

Grade A, and why

quality-engineering-api-testing scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Quality Engineering: API Testing & Correctness

Priority: P1 (HIGH)

Scope & Purpose

Standardizes API correctness verification across five distinct purposes (lane: api per C1):

  1. Smoke: Business readiness beyond shallow health endpoints.
  2. Functional: Business rules, state changes, calculations, and error invariants.
  3. Contract: Schema conformance and consumer-driven expectations.
  4. Integration: Multi-service coordination, real vs mocked dependencies, retries, and idempotency.
  5. Regression Selection: Evidence-based test selection with explicit baseline and uncertainty handling.

Core Rules

  1. Smoke Readiness (AC-06): A 200 OK on GET /health proves process liveness, not business readiness. Smoke suites must exercise at least one end-to-end critical business operation (e.g., authenticated preflight, read core entity).
  2. Functional Oracles (AC-07): Schema-valid payloads with 200 OK do not prove correctness. Every functional test must assert on computed values, database state, business invariants, and specific error payloads.
  3. Contract Verification (AC-08): Do not equate OpenAPI schema validation with version compatibility or consumer contract testing. Schema checks prove candidate syntax conformance; baseline-to-candidate diffs prove what baseline clients and consumers still get. Record producer versions and the protected consumer version, then verify both directions: baseline-valid requests remain accepted (a schema default never exempts a newly required property unless the provider's actual omission behavior is demonstrated), and candidate responses stay readable by baseline consumers, including new enum/union values an exhaustive consumer rejects. Consumer-driven contracts (e.g., Pact) verify consumer-needed fields and semantics. Missing baseline or consumer artifacts are BLOCKED, never inferred compatible.
  4. Integration & Idempotency (AC-09): Firing network requests without verifying resulting persistence or side effects is invalid. When testing retries (including post-effect lost-response timeouts), verify final state and assert zero duplicate side effects across both local database records and an independent downstream gateway ledger oracle. Simulated mocks do not replace authorized real-dependency evidence.
  5. Regression Selection (AC-10): Map code/contract deltas to affected obligations. Always retain the critical smoke baseline. If delta impact is ambiguous, broaden coverage or log a blocker—never claim unverified completeness.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

quality-engineering-api-testing is a skill published in the GitHub repository HoangNguyen0403/agent-skills-standard (582 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 46 tokens to every session and 1,255 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-28.
