dns

dns is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from hostinger/hostinger-agent-skills. It costs 41 tokens per session (2,461 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A tool for managing DNS records, which connect domain names to servers and services, for domains hosted on Hostinger.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create, update, delete, validate, snapshot, restore, or reset records such as website, email, text, and service-location records.
Why use it?
It reduces manual work and helps back up, validate, restore, or reset a domain's DNS settings.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00041 $0.02461
Opus 5 $0.00020 $0.01230
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00492
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00246

Security

Grade A, and why

dns scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Hostinger DNS

The DNS API enables full management of DNS zone records for domains hosted on Hostinger. You can create, update, delete, validate, and reset DNS records, as well as manage DNS snapshots for backup and restore operations.

Table of Contents

Core Concepts

DNS Records

Standard DNS record types are supported:

Type Purpose Example
A IPv4 address 192.168.1.1
AAAA IPv6 address 2001:db8::1
CNAME Canonical name alias www.example.com.
ALIAS ANAME/ALIAS record example.com.
MX Mail exchange mail.example.com.
TXT Text record v=spf1 include:...
NS Name server ns1.example.com.
SOA Start of authority Zone authority info
SRV Service locator _sip._tcp.example.com.
CAA Certificate authority auth 0 issue "letsencrypt.org"

Zone Updates

When updating DNS records, the overwrite flag controls behavior:

  • overwrite: true (default) — Replaces existing records matching name and type with the new records
  • overwrite: false — Updates TTL on existing records, appends new records; if no match found, creates them

Snapshots

DNS snapshots capture the state of a domain's DNS zone at a point in time. Use them to restore previous configurations if something goes wrong.

TTL (Time-To-Live)

TTL controls how long DNS resolvers cache a record. Default is 14400 seconds (4 hours). Lower values propagate changes faster but increase DNS query load.

Common Patterns

Get DNS Records for a Domain

curl -X GET "https://developers.hostinger.com/api/dns/v1/zones/example.com" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $HOSTINGER_API_TOKEN"

Python SDK:

from hostinger_api import Hostinger

client = Hostinger(api_token="YOUR_API_TOKEN")
records = client.dns.zone.get_dns_records("example.com")
for record in records:
    print(f"{record.type} {record.name} -> {record.content}")

What ships with it

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

dns is a skill published in the GitHub repository hostinger/hostinger-agent-skills (21 stars, last pushed 2mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 41 tokens to every session and 2,461 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
