notes

notes is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from hristo2612/jinn. It costs 14 tokens per session (271 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A way to store durable project knowledge as Markdown files, such as facts, decisions, preferences, and context for future sessions. It can search, read, create, and safely update these notes.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to record decisions, maintain project context, find existing knowledge, and update notes without overwriting someone else’s newer changes.
Why use it?
It prevents useful information from being lost between sessions and avoids creating multiple competing notes about the same subject.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00014 $0.00271
Opus 5 $0.00007 $0.00135
Sonnet 5 $0.00003 $0.00054
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00027

Measured 6d ago against content hash 5d00e6e77ab0, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-05, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

notes scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Notes Skill

Use Notes for durable facts, decisions, preferences, and project context that should help future sessions. Notes are Markdown files in knowledge/; docs/ remains read-only reference material.

Tools

  • list_notes: browse folders or search by text.
  • read_note: read one Note and receive its current revision.
  • create_note: create a Note from a title, optional body, and optional folder.
  • update_note: change a title or body, or append content, using the current revision.

Safe update rule

Before every update, read it before updating and pass its returned revision as expectedRevision. If the revision conflicts, read the Note again, reconcile the newer content, and retry; never overwrite concurrent changes blindly.

Search before creating so one topic does not fragment across duplicate Notes. Prefer updating an existing canonical Note when it already owns the subject.

Writing guidance

  • Keep entries concise, factual, and useful beyond the current task.
  • Record decisions with their context and date when timing matters.
  • Correct stale facts instead of appending contradictory versions.
  • Never store credentials, tokens, or other secrets in a Note.
  • Do not use Notes for temporary scratch output or session transcripts.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
