zeus: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/zeus-discover/SKILL.md

zeus-discover is a skill for Claude Code from huifer/zeus. It costs 34 tokens per session (745 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A skill that examines an existing codebase and records its structure, dependencies, tests, major modules, and unfinished-work markers in reusable project files.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to map a project before planning or changing it. It can scan at a quick, automatic, or full level and avoids recording secrets.
Why use it?
It gives later planning and coding work a consistent picture of an existing project instead of relying on guesswork.

Skill for Claude Code

Written for Claude Code: argument-hint in frontmatter.

This is huifer/zeus's own configuration. It tells Claude Code how to work on zeus itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything zeus configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00034 $0.00745
Opus 5 $0.00017 $0.00373
Sonnet 5 $0.00007 $0.00149
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00075

Measured 8d ago against content hash 21f581454ca4, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

zeus-discover scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Zeus Discover - Brownfield Codebase Mapper

Use this skill to analyze an existing project and generate reusable codebase context before planning and execution.

Preconditions

  • .zeus/{version}/ exists (default main).
  • You can write to .zeus/{version}/.
  • The target project root is readable.

Inputs

  • --project-root <path> (optional, default current workspace root)
  • --depth quick|auto|full (optional, default auto)
  • --version vN (optional, default main)

Security rules

  • Never read or print secret values from .env*, *secret*, *credential*, key/cert files.
  • For sensitive files, only record existence and path.
  • Output must contain no credentials or token-like strings.

Deterministic workflow

1) Resolve scope

Resolve version folder and project root:

  • output base: .zeus/{version}/
  • map target: {project-root}

2) Collect structural inventory

Collect and summarize:

  • top-level directories and key entry points,
  • package/runtime manifests,
  • test config and test file patterns,
  • major module directories and size hotspots,
  • TODO/FIXME/HACK markers.

3) Collect dependency and integration signals

Extract from manifests and imports:

  • language/runtime/framework set,
  • critical dependencies and tooling,
  • external integration candidates (SDK/API clients),
  • datastore/auth/observability hints when present.

4) Build module map

Generate module-level records with:

  • path,
  • role classification (api, frontend, infra, data, shared, test, unknown),
  • approximate LOC,
  • key dependency links,
  • risk markers (large-file, todo-density, high-fan-in).

5) Write brownfield artifacts

Write these files to .zeus/{version}/:

  1. codebase-map.json
  2. existing-modules.json
  3. tech-inventory.md
  4. architecture.md

6) Validate and summarize

  • Validate JSON structure against schemas when available.
  • If schema file is missing, continue and note validation skipped.
  • Return concise summary with artifact paths and record counts.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

zeus-discover is a skill published in the GitHub repository huifer/zeus (22 stars, last pushed 5mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 34 tokens to every session and 745 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
