brand-and-naming

brand-and-naming is a skill for Claude Code from impactbrussels/FounderOS. It costs 99 tokens per session (1,456 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A guide for naming a startup or product and choosing a simple, consistent brand voice. It creates and screens name options, while leaving domain, trademark, and social-handle checks to the founder and appropriate professionals.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to define naming requirements, generate and compare candidates, plan availability checks, and set a consistent voice for future company writing.
Why use it?
It helps founders stop cycling endlessly through names and avoid committing to one that is unclear, hard to say, difficult to find, or unavailable. It also separates creative naming from checks that must be verified with real tools.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00099 $0.01456
Opus 5 $0.00049 $0.00728
Sonnet 5 $0.00020 $0.00291
Haiku 4.5 $0.00010 $0.00146

Security

Grade A, and why

brand-and-naming scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Brand & Naming

Naming paralyses first-time founders for weeks - and the wrong name is expensive to undo once a domain, logo, and reputation are attached to it. A name doesn't have to be brilliant; it has to be clear, sayable, findable, and free to use. This skill clarifies what the name must do, generates a shortlist across naming styles, screens it hard (including the availability checks the founder must run themselves), and then locks in a simple brand voice so everything written under the name sounds like the same company.

Availability is not something an AI can confirm. Domain, trademark, and handle availability change constantly and vary by jurisdiction. This skill tells you what to check and how - you (and, for trademarks, a lawyer) must verify it with real tools before committing.

The method

Built on the Founder OS scaffold (High tier). Full naming-style menu, screening checklist and voice template in references/naming.md.

Step 1 - Clarify what the name must do

Before generating anything, fix the constraints. A good name is memorable, sayable, spellable, and available, and it fits [STARTUP_NAME]'s positioning for [ICP]. Decide:

  • How descriptive vs. distinctive should it be? (Descriptive is clear but hard to trademark and boxes you in; distinctive is ownable but needs marketing to give it meaning.)
  • Any must-haves or hard nos? (Geography, language markets it must work in, length, ".com" or not.) This step prevents falling in love with a name that can't do the job.

Step 2 - Generate a shortlist across naming styles

Don't brainstorm in one style. Use the naming-style menu in the reference - descriptive, suggestive, abstract/coined, founder, compound, real-word - and generate candidates in each, so you compare genuinely different options instead of variations on one idea. Aim for a shortlist of 8-12 to screen, not one favourite to defend.

Step 3 - Screen for clarity, connotation, and availability

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
