record-demo-video

record-demo-video is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from implicit-labs/autosymph. It costs 98 tokens per session (2,061 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A workflow for recording polished demonstration videos from real screen activity on iOS Simulator or macOS web screens.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps capture comparison videos for behavior changes and sequential videos for animated or interactive flows.
Why use it?
It provides a repeatable way to show either a bug before and after a fix or a multi-step interaction.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00098 $0.02061
Opus 5 $0.00049 $0.01030
Sonnet 5 $0.00020 $0.00412
Haiku 4.5 $0.00010 $0.00206

Security

Grade A, and why

record-demo-video scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 4 executable files (scripts/demo-compare.sh, scripts/demo-prereqs.sh, scripts/demo-stitch.sh, …), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Record Demo Video

Prereq Guard (RUN FIRST)

${AUTOSYMPH_SKILLS_DIR:-$HOME/.autosymph/skills}/record-demo-video/scripts/demo-prereqs.sh

If it exits non-zero, STOP and tell the user what's missing. Do NOT improvise around missing tools.

Decision Tree

What are you demoing?
|
+-- Bug fix / behavior change (has a "before" state to compare against)
|   --> COMPARISON MODE: side-by-side before/after (demo-compare.sh)
|
+-- Animated / interactive / multi-step flow
|   --> SEQUENTIAL MODE: capture loop + stitch (demo-stitch.sh)
|
+-- Static layout / single state / styling
--> Use screenshot-stitch skill instead (screenshots only, lighter)

How to decide comparison vs sequential:

  • Can you reproduce the broken behavior on main/before the fix? --> comparison
  • Is the value in showing a multi-step flow or journey? --> sequential
  • Both? Record the flow on main first, then on the branch, then compare

Comparison Mode (before/after side-by-side)

For bug fixes and behavior changes where showing the diff is more powerful than showing the flow. Produces a side-by-side video like Tabby's visual-proof pattern.

${AUTOSYMPH_SKILLS_DIR:-$HOME/.autosymph/skills}/record-demo-video/scripts/demo-compare.sh \
  --before before.mov --after after.mov \
  --before-label "BEFORE FIX (broken)" \
  --after-label "AFTER FIX" \
--before-sub "MRU order NOT preserved" \
--after-sub "MRU order preserved via URL fingerprint" \
  -o comparison.mp4

Accepts videos (.mov, .mp4) or screenshots (.png, .jpg) — mix and match. Handles duration matching (pads shorter clip with freeze frame). Adds labeled header bar + timestamp badge if drawtext is available.

Workflow for comparison:

  1. Checkout main, record the broken behavior (screenshot or video)
  2. Checkout the fix branch, record the fixed behavior
  3. Run demo-compare.sh with both artifacts

Sequential Mode (multi-step flow)

For new features and multi-step interactions where the value is in showing the journey. Produces a timeline video with action boundaries.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
