kc-preflight

kc-preflight is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from imran31415/kube-coder. It costs 56 tokens per session (959 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A local preflight checker for kube-coder that runs the project’s main quality checks before code is pushed. These checks include chart validation, tests, web-app builds, and shell syntax checks.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it before opening or updating a pull request to check Helm charts, Python tests, dashboard and controller builds, Vitest tests, and shell scripts.
Why use it?
It catches failures locally before a pull request or push reaches continuous integration (CI), the automated checks run by the repository.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00056 $0.00959
Opus 5 $0.00028 $0.00479
Sonnet 5 $0.00011 $0.00192
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00096

Measured 6d ago against content hash 78a6fac5d861, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-05, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

kc-preflight scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 101 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

kube-coder preflight (run CI locally)

Mirrors .github/workflows/ci.yml so you catch failures before pushing instead of waiting on a CI round-trip. Run the subset named by $ARGUMENTS (default all). Report a concise PASS/FAIL summary per section at the end.

Run from the repo root (/home/dev/kube-coder).

Prereqs (install once, idempotent)

export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"
# helm (if missing)
command -v helm >/dev/null || {
  cd /tmp && curl -fsSL https://get.helm.sh/helm-v3.14.4-linux-amd64.tar.gz | tar xz \
    && install -m755 linux-amd64/helm ~/.local/bin/helm; cd -; }
# helm-unittest plugin (if missing)
helm plugin list 2>/dev/null | grep -q unittest \
  || helm plugin install https://github.com/helm-unittest/helm-unittest.git --version v0.5.2

helm — lint + template + unit tests

export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"
helm lint charts/workspace/ -f charts/workspace/tests/test-values.yaml
helm template test-ws charts/workspace/ -f charts/workspace/tests/test-values.yaml > /dev/null
helm unittest charts/workspace/
# controller chart too, if you touched it:
# helm lint charts/workspace-controller/ -f charts/workspace-controller/tests/test-values.yaml
# helm unittest charts/workspace-controller/

python — server.py unit + integration tests

make python-tests
# equivalently: cd charts/workspace && python3 -m unittest discover -s tests -p '*_test.py'

web — SPA typecheck, build, and vitest (BOTH apps)

There are two SPAs with separate lockfiles and CI jobs: the dashboard (charts/workspace/web) and the controller (charts/workspace-controller/web). CI runs each build (which is tsc --noEmit && vite build) then vitest — mirror both:

for dir in charts/workspace/web charts/workspace-controller/web; do
  yarn --cwd "$dir" install --frozen-lockfile # first run only
  yarn --cwd "$dir" build # tsc + vite
  yarn --cwd "$dir" test # vitest run
done

Ignore the DOMException [NetworkError] … /oauth/terminal/ noise in TerminalPane tests — happy-dom tries to actually fetch iframe srcs; it's harmless and pre-existing. Only the final Test Files … / Tests … tally matters.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

kc-preflight is a skill published in the GitHub repository imran31415/kube-coder (352 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 56 tokens to every session and 959 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
