backend-spring-security

backend-spring-security is a skill for Claude Code from infraspecdev/tesseract. It costs 56 tokens per session (1,371 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A review guide for Spring Security, the part of Spring Boot that controls login, permissions, sessions, and protection against web attacks.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for checking password hashing, CSRF and CORS settings, access rules, session handling, and JWT or OAuth2 setup.
Why use it?
It helps find unsafe defaults or unclear security choices in authentication and authorization code before they become vulnerabilities.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00056 $0.01371
Opus 5.5 $0.00022 $0.00548
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00011 $0.00274
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00137

Security

Grade A, and why

backend-spring-security scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Spring Security Review

Overview

Review Spring Security configuration for safe defaults: strong password hashing, CSRF protection on browser flows, deliberate authorization rules, appropriate session policy, and explicit choices on every relaxation.

Triggers when spring-boot-starter-security is detected and Spring Security config classes are in scope. Pairs with the security-engineer agent for cross-cutting security concerns beyond Spring Security framework wiring.

Version Compatibility

Supported: Spring Boot 3.x with Spring Security 6 (declared via spring_boot_versions: ["3.x"] in frontmatter).

Spring Boot 2.x with Spring Security 5 — LIMITED coverage. This is the most version-sensitive Spring skill.

Spring Security 5 uses WebSecurityConfigurerAdapter and a different DSL. The SB3 examples in this skill DO NOT translate directly. On SB2 codebases:

  • SS1 (password encoder strength): applies identically — trust this finding
  • SS5 (method-level @PreAuthorize): applies identically — trust this finding
  • SS2 (CSRF), SS3 (authorization rules), SS4 (CORS), SS6 (session policy): the SB3 lambda DSL examples DO NOT match SB2's WebSecurityConfigurerAdapter style. Findings on SB2 code may be incorrect — verify manually
  • SS7 (JWT/OAuth2): applies but config class shape differs
  • SS8 (HTTPS), SS9 (auth provider), SS10 (logout): concept identical, syntax differs

Recommendation: For thorough SB2 coverage, follow Pattern B (sibling skill spring-security-sb2) per shield/skills/backend/EXTENDING-VERSIONS.md. Until then: trust SS1 and SS5 findings on SB2 code, treat SS2–SS4 findings as candidates to verify manually.

When to Use

  • Reviewing @EnableWebSecurity configuration classes
  • Reviewing SecurityFilterChain beans and their authorization rules
  • Reviewing @PreAuthorize/@PostAuthorize on service methods
  • Reviewing JWT/OAuth2 resource server configuration

When NOT to Use

  • Application-layer authorization without Spring Security — different patterns
  • Infrastructure-level network security (security groups, ACLs) — operational concern
  • Generic input validation — use api-design-review (A9)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

backend-spring-security is a skill published in the GitHub repository infraspecdev/tesseract (5 stars, last pushed 3mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 56 tokens to every session and 1,371 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
