story-engineer

story-engineer is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from J-StaR-Films-Studios/VibeCode-Protocol-Suite. It costs 40 tokens per session (715 once invoked), scanned A, original, ISC.

A method for turning well-supported project histories, case studies, launches, research journeys, or retrospectives into truthful stories.

In plain words
What is it for?
Shaping evidence-rich project material into narrative structures for articles, case studies, and retrospectives.
Why use it?
It helps structure complex source material without making up a new story or unsupported claims.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00040 $0.00715
Opus 5 $0.00020 $0.00358
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00143
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00072

Security

Grade A, and why

story-engineer scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Story Engineer

Turn real events, artifacts, decisions, and outcomes into a compelling interface narrative without inventing drama or forcing every project through the same arc.

Applicability

Use this skill when the material contains a meaningful transformation, investigation, trial, construction process, consequence, or sequence of discoveries.

For a sparse request such as “make a website for this business,” use a creative-direction workflow instead. A category name is not a project history.

1. Build the Evidence Ledger

Extract:

  • Events and their actual order.
  • Decisions and known causes.
  • Artifacts that can be shown.
  • Claims and their support.
  • Accurate metrics that materially change understanding.
  • Unknowns requiring confirmation.

Keep facts, interpretations, and unknowns distinguishable. Do not invent failures, competitions, milestones, quotations, metrics, or turning points.

Completion Gate

  • Narrative claims trace to supplied evidence.
  • Missing facts remain visible.

2. Identify the Narrative Engine

Choose the real source of motion:

  • Transformation
  • Investigation
  • Trial
  • Construction
  • Reframing
  • Consequence

State it in one sentence. Use a contradiction or driving question only when the evidence earns it.

Completion Gate

  • The engine describes actual change or discovery.
  • The proposed conclusion can answer it honestly.

3. Choose the Shape

Select among chronological, question-and-evidence, problem-attempt-resolution, artifact-first reconstruction, parallel comparison, or thematic chapters.

Protect a reveal only when early disclosure would weaken genuine discovery. Keep products, services, prices, locations, and primary actions available when visitors need them.

Completion Gate

  • Structure follows evidence rather than a fixed beat sheet.
  • Essential utility is not sacrificed for suspense.

4. Construct the Rail

For every beat, specify:

  1. Evidence introduced.
  2. Question answered.
  3. New understanding created.
  4. Emotional register earned.
  5. Artifact or data carrying the beat.
  6. Any withheld information and the reason.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

story-engineer is a skill published in the GitHub repository J-StaR-Films-Studios/VibeCode-Protocol-Suite (24 stars, last pushed today), licensed ISC. It adds 40 tokens to every session and 715 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
