code-quality-reviewer

code-quality-reviewer is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from jackfranklin/dotfiles. It costs 56 tokens per session (378 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A focused code review guide for finding hacky patterns, duplicated state, overly crowded function parameters, copy-pasted logic, and poorly contained implementation details.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to review uncommitted or specified code changes for redundant state, parameter sprawl, duplication, leaky abstractions, and raw strings used in place of safer types.
Why use it?
It helps reveal maintainability problems that may work today but make future changes harder and riskier.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00056 $0.00378
Opus 5 $0.00028 $0.00189
Sonnet 5 $0.00011 $0.00076
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00038

Measured 4d ago against content hash d657c876bb39, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

code-quality-reviewer scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Code Quality Reviewer

Step 1: Identify target

Determine what code to review:

  • Default to uncommitted changes (git diff and git diff --cached)
  • If the user specified a file or range, use that
  • If unclear, ask before proceeding

Step 2: Review

Spawn an Explore subagent via the Agent tool. Give it the diff/file contents, the repo root path, and these instructions:

Review the changes for hacky patterns. You have access to the full repo — use Grep and Glob when you need to check how existing patterns are used elsewhere.

  1. Redundant state: state that duplicates existing state, cached values that could be derived, observers/effects that could be direct calls
  2. Parameter sprawl: adding new parameters to a function instead of generalizing or restructuring existing ones
  3. Copy-paste with slight variation: near-duplicate code blocks that should be unified with a shared abstraction
  4. Leaky abstractions: exposing internal details that should be encapsulated, or breaking existing abstraction boundaries
  5. Stringly-typed code: using raw strings where constants, enums (string unions), or branded types already exist in the codebase

Step 3: Report findings

Present findings as a list. For each finding include:

  • File path and line number
  • What the issue is
  • Concrete suggestion for how to fix it

Do not make any changes. If the user asks to fix specific items, apply those fixes directly.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
