data-modeling

data-modeling is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from JakubMikolajek/codex-skills-collection. It costs 55 tokens per session (2,659 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide to structuring data and business rules around real-world concepts, such as customers, orders, or documents. It covers boundaries between entities, groups of related data, and recording events over time.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to design or review a service's domain model, decide how data and business rules should be grouped, and check whether model boundaries are clear. It is aimed at complex business logic, not simple tables or API shapes.
Why use it?
It helps keep business rules in one clear place instead of scattering them across different parts of a service. This reduces inconsistent data and unclear ownership as the system grows.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00055 $0.02659
Opus 5 $0.00028 $0.01329
Sonnet 5 $0.00011 $0.00532
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00266

Security

Grade A, and why

data-modeling scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Data Modeling

This skill covers the architectural side of data design — how to model a domain so that business rules are enforced by structure, not by discipline.

When to Use

  • Designing the domain model for a new service with non-trivial business rules
  • Existing code has business logic scattered across services with no clear ownership
  • Deciding how to partition a domain into aggregates and services
  • Reviewing data structures for consistency, invariant enforcement, and boundary clarity

When NOT to Use

  • Simple CRUD with no business rules — a flat table is fine
  • Physical schema design (column types, indexes) — use sql-and-database
  • API request/response shapes — use api-contract

Core Concepts

Ubiquitous Language

Every concept in the domain model uses the same name as the business uses. If the business calls it a "Document Request" and the code calls it a DocReq, you have two models — and they will diverge.

  • Name classes, methods, and variables after the business concept they represent
  • When a business concept has no name yet, invent one with the domain experts
  • Resist mapping business concepts to generic technical names (Manager, Handler, Processor)

Entities vs Value Objects

Entity — has identity that persists over time. Two entities with identical attributes are still distinct.

class Document {
  constructor(
    readonly id: DocumentId,  // identity
    private title: string,
    private content: string,
  ) {}
}
// Two documents with same title and content are different documents

Value Object — defined entirely by its attributes. Two value objects with identical attributes are interchangeable. Immutable by definition.

class DocumentId {
  constructor(readonly value: string) {
    if (!isUUID(value)) throw new Error('DocumentId must be a UUID');
  }
  equals(other: DocumentId): boolean {
    return this.value === other.value;
  }
}

class Tag {
  constructor(readonly value: string) {
    if (!value.trim()) throw new Error('Tag cannot be empty');
    if (value.length > 50) throw new Error('Tag too long');
  }
}

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

data-modeling is a skill published in the GitHub repository JakubMikolajek/codex-skills-collection (5 stars, last pushed 5d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 55 tokens to every session and 2,659 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
