options-analysis

options-analysis is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from jamespud/yahoo-stock-mcp. It costs 78 tokens per session (1,187 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An analysis of listed stock option contracts across expiry dates and strike prices. It includes contract prices, trading activity, open interest, and implied volatility, which is the volatility level suggested by option prices.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to inspect an option chain, compare strikes or expiries, review implied volatility, and assess contract liquidity.
Why use it?
It helps compare contracts and identify options with limited trading activity or unusual pricing. It can also show how expected volatility changes across different expiry dates.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00078 $0.01187
Opus 5.5 $0.00031 $0.00475
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00016 $0.00237
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00119

Security

Grade A, and why

options-analysis scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Options analysis

Read a chain contract by contract, screen it for liquidity, and - when the question needs more than one expiry - assemble the term structure from separate live calls.

Read references/data-policy.md first, then the chain playbook for the sequence, the scales, and the reporting shape.

MCP tools used

  • get_option_quote - live Yahoo chain for one expiry: underlying quote, available expirations and strikes, per-contract quotes
  • get_options - the stored chain snapshot in SQLite, optionally filtered to one expiration
  • get_quote - the stored underlying price and its date, for a same-source comparison with the snapshot
  • sync_stock - refreshes the stored chain snapshot (options component)
  • get_bars - underlying price history, when a strike or IV reading needs a recent range

Workflow

  1. Decide which source answers the question. A current chain, a specific expiry, or anything about IV belongs to get_option_quote (live, no database needed). A reproducible, dated snapshot
    • or a symbol whose live fetch is failing - belongs to get_options.
  2. Get the expiration list before asking for legs. get_option_quote returns expirations and the strikes available for the expiry it returned; get_options returns expirations present in the snapshot. Choose from that list rather than assuming standard monthlies.
  3. Pull one expiry at a time. Both tools return a single expiry's legs per call (the nearest by default). For a term structure you must call get_option_quote once per expiration - bound how many you request to the question.
  4. Filter, then check you still have both sides. Pass type and strike to narrow, and keep limit generous: the limit is applied by slicing after the filters, and the legs are ordered calls-then-puts, so a small limit silently drops the entire put side.
  5. Screen for liquidity before quoting prices. Bid, ask, volume and open interest decide whether a quote means anything. Report zero-bid and empty-volume legs as such rather than quoting a mid.
  6. Report with the as-of and the source. Live chains carry an asOf timestamp and the underlying's marketState; the stored snapshot carries per-leg updated_at. Say which one every number came from.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
